Newcomers' Coffee: Are you new to Hot Springs Village? Then come to the Newcomers' Coffee, on Thursday, Jun 25 at 9:00 a.m. in the Ouachita Activities Building of the Ponce de Leon Center, to learn more about life in HSV.

Coffee and donuts will be available at 8:30 a.m. and presentations will begin at 9:00 a.m. The meeting gives new residents an opportunity to hear about organizations, activities and governance in Hot Springs Village.

The Ponce de Leon Center is located at 1101 Desoto Boulevard. Call 501-922-4231 for more information.

Troon Challenge Regional Qualifier at the Magellan Golf Club on Jul 1 

The event format is a two-person modified best ball (shamble). Tee times will begin at 9:00 a.m. The entry fee is only $170 per team.  Winners of both Gross and Net divisions will qualify to play in the Troon Challenge National Finals at Troon North Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona on Aug 22 & 23 (additional entry fees will apply; qualifiers will need to secure their own transportation and lodging for the finals). Urban Deer Hunt Registration Deadline is Jun 30: The 2015-2016 Urban Deer Hunt for Hot Springs Village, an archery only deer hunt, will be begin on Sept. 1, 2015 and continue through Feb 28, 2016. The hunt will be regulated by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AGFC) and all rules will be enforced under AGFC guidelines during the hunt.

 

All Hunters planning to participate in the hunt must attend a mandatory Orientation Meeting set for Aug 15 in Hot Springs Village at the Ponce de Leon Center, Ouachita Room. The Arkansas Bowhunter's Association (ABA) will handle the registration. Click Here for more information on the criteria list or to register for the hunt, through Jun 30.

 

Builder Series Meeting: A Builder Series Meeting will be held on Tuesday, Jun 30, at 3:00 p.m. at the Coronado Community Center. Guest speaker, Greg Bennett of Bennett Brothers will discuss landscaping. Space is limited; Pre-register by calling the P & I Department at 501.922.5562. Door prizes will be presented at the end of the meeting. 
Public Safety
Police Chief:
COO David Twiggs announced the promotion of Interim Police Chief, Rick Middleton to Police Chief, effective immediately, at the June 17 Board Meeting. Rick has been with HSVPOA for 35 years and has served in the Public Safety Department since 1985. Middleton attended the Arkansas Law Enforcement Training Academy. In 1993 he was promoted to Lieutenant. Rick served as interim Police Chief from November 2012 until October 2013. Middleton holds an Associate of Applied Science in Criminal Justice Degree, graduated from the Institute for Law Enforcement Administration Management College in Plano, Texas and completed the Police Chief Executive Development course from the Criminal Justice Institute in Little Rock.

Be Safe and Illuminate Campaign:
HSV Police Department officers will be handing out glow necklaces and bracelets prior to the fireworks show at Lake Balboa area on Jul 4, beginning at approximately 6:30 p.m. Watch for the officers and ask for a necklace or bracelet.

Drug Take-Back Box:
The Drug Take-Back Box is available at the Police Department Dispatch Lobby at 113 Calella Road. This box is for prescription pills and tablets only, and it can be utilized 24 hours a day.

 

No over the counter medications, liquids or sharps are to be disposed of in the box. In order to maintain confidentially and prevent identity theft, it is strongly recommended that the prescription medications be removed from their container and securely placed in a zip lock bag prior to depositing in the drop box. 

Public Works

Storm Debris Drop Off: Hot Springs Village members may bring their storm debris to the old gravel pit site at the end of Deposito Paseo, off of Terlingua Drive, starting at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, Jun 26 and going through 3:00 p.m. Members are responsible for bringing only "wood", vegetation, limb and branch debris from the storm. Absolutely NO other materials will be accepted. A POA attendant will be onsite to show members where they may unload the debris.

If you miss this date, you may also drop off from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Friday, Jul 10.  

 

HSVPOA has contracted the pickup of storm debris on road right-of-ways.   

 

Streets Division: Levantino Drive between Fletante Way and Buque/Tiburon Way is closed until further notice. Culvert repairs will be made as soon as possible.

   

The culvert replacement program is nearing completion. The contractor will move to Promesa Drive on Tuesday, Jun 23 and replace six culverts throughout the week.

 

Mowing of all Village streets is continuing.  

 

Please observe all signs and use caution when approaching work areas and mowing crews.  

Recreation

Trails: The Hernando Trail is now open. The Cedar Creek Trail, which was heavily damaged in the recent storms, will remain closed until further notice.

TRI-the-Village Sprint Triathlon the best one yet! Last Saturday's event was the fourth annual Sprint Triathlon and attracted 194 athletes from across the country. The event was presented by Lefler Dental with registration and management through DLT Event Management, Inc. with support from and in benefit of Teen Challenge of Arkansas. Other business sponsors included Re/Max of Hot Springs Village, Natural Massage by Judy and Basecamp. This community event would not be possible with our sponsors and team of volunteers including individuals, local police and fire departments and medical coordinators.

 

Share Your Favorite Recipe: Help the Coronado Community Library raise money for future projects by sharing your favorite recipe. As part of the first-ever Literary Festival in Hot Springs Village, the library will offer a community cookbook as a fundraiser for the library. All recipes must be submitted to the library before July 6 to be included in the book. Recipes can be mailed, dropped off in person or emailed to [email protected]. The Literary Festival is to be held on Sunday, Oct 11. Orders for the cookbook will be taken at the festival.   

 

Green Market:  The Green Market is held on Thursdays from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Grove Park located at 1105 DeSoto Boulevard. Local farmers and artisans offer vegetables, home-baked goods, meat, eggs, fruits, soup mixes, handcrafted items and more.  Be sure to pick up a reusable Green Market shopping bag for $5.00. 

 An additional day (usually Tuesdays) may be added later as crops ripen, providing an abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables. Watch for notices of the extended hours.

 

Summer Swim Lessons: Swim lessons will be held at the Coronado Fitness Center Monday - Friday through Jun 28, and Jul. 6 - 31. Two sessions, per day, will be offered at 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. During these times, the indoor pool will have one lane open for water walking. The Monday, Wednesday and Friday shallow water aerobics class will be held at 2:30 p.m. The regular class schedule will resume on Aug 3. Boat Slip Rentals: Covered boat slips are available for rent at Lake Coronado and uncovered slips at Lake DeSoto Marina for six-month and annual leases. Watch for the Grand Re-opening of Lake Desoto Marina coming soon. For information regarding boat-slip sizes and rental fees, please call the Recreation Department at 922-5050.
