Tips to Keep Your Home Safe for All

May 2014

Exhausting, Exhilarating, and Energizing

Those are all words that describe our recent experience as first time exhibitors at the Rhode Island Home Show. The show, which by all accounts was a resounding success, was held at the Providence Convention Center from April 3- 6.

Attendance was way up and you could actually feel the buzz in the air. It was a terrific showcase for our products and services while providing a great opportunity to introduce our company to the general public. We would like to thank the organizers, the Rhode Island Builders Association and the Rhode Island Convention Authority, for a job well done. Their focus on delivering a top notch experience for all participants was a home run.

We are already planning our 2015 booth, which will be bigger and better. We also want to thank all who helped work our booth!

Making Homes Safer for Everyone
Home Healthsmith received a call from Mr. Norton's son on March 28th. The family reached out to us because their father needed to rent a stairlift. He was coming home after being in Kent County Hospital for a week plus five days at Heritage Hills Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Smithfield.

We went to their home the following day to measure the stairs and assess for other modifications. Installation was completed on Monday, March 31st so the home was safe for Mr. Norton's return on April 4th. The modifications also provided peace of mind for the family and caregivers.

As part of our SafeHome Advantage program, we provided the following services for Mr. Norton:

  • Installation of five grab bars in various locations
  • Removal of glass shower doors and tub track
  • Installation of hand held shower unit
  • Fitting of a sliding transfer bench with swivel seat
  • Installation of toilet safety rails and seat risers

Another Happy HHS Customer

Last February we installed a stairlift in the Hope Valley home of Mr. & Mrs. Krahn. Since that time they have had us come back for various additional modifications per recommendations made by the Visiting Nurse Association (VNA).

"I am so pleased that I chose you folks! It was a pleasure to meet you. All is working well. The VNA of New England were really impressed with your work too."

- Thanks, Norma Krahn

Broccoli Rabe - Flavors of Spring!

Broccoli Rabe was a new discovery for me last year and it is showing up in stores more and more. It is a relative of turnip apparently and is slightly bitter but very very mild. The entire plant is edible so is often cooked whole. It wilts like spinach and is not quite as hardy as broccoli.

This early spring vegetable is considered a dark leafy green and is very nutritious! It is largely found in Italian cooking but is branching out as it is incorporated more and more into the grocery stores.

I am including a fabulous recipe which uses the vegetable itself and the

water it is boiled in. It is quick cooking so really you only need to blanch it.

Enjoy the beginning of the season...the abundance begins!
