Tips to Keep Your Home Safe for All

April 2014

Greetings from Capital Hill in Washington DC!

Home Healthsmith was honored to be the guests of Meredith Sheehan, Manager of Programs & Advocacy, of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Rhode Island Chapter.

The National MS Society hosts an annual Public Policy Conference in DC every March. We were advocating for NIH Funding, FDA Funding, CDMRP and the Durable Medical Coverage Expansion under Medicare. We spent Tuesday listening to representatives and activists regarding the issues and were prepped to go out and advocate for additional funding.

We had the pleasure of meeting with Jack Reed, United States Senator for RI and Marc Capuano, Correspondence Director for Senator Reed; Rick Van Buren, Legislative Assistant for Senator Sheldon Whitehouse; Matthew McGinn, Legislative Correspondent for Congressional David Cicilline and Todd Adams, Legislative Director for the Honorable Jim Langevin, member of Congress for the 2nd District of Rhode Island.

We were able to talk to these legislators about our personal story on how MS has affected our lives and the lives of our families and about what Home Healthsmith is doing to enable those that are disabled to live safely in their homes. We talked about some of the issues that our clients are facing regarding funding needed to make the modifications necessary to keep them in their homes.  We explained that some of our clients need stairlifts to allow them to get to their bathroom on the 2nd floor and that some need their doors widened to enable them to move around in their wheelchairs.

Every day we move closer to a world free of MS. Join the movement to help raise awareness about Multiple Sclerosis.  Learn more by contacting the Rhode Island Chapter at 1-800-FIGHTMS or go to

Special thanks to our host, Meredith Sheehan and the local RI Chapter.

Stairlift Rentals Now Available

An affordable solution for those who temporarily need a stairlift is the Home Healthsmith Stairlift Rental Program. No longer do you need to purchase a permanent unit.

For as low as $98 a month after installation, you increase the safety of your own home, or that of a loved one. A straight stairlift allows easy access to an upstairs bedroom or a downstairs basement. It can prevent falls, increase mobility, and allow residents to stay in their own home longer.

Expecting a mobility impaired loved one for an extended visit in your home? Have you experienced a temporary mobility set-back? Our stairlift rental program may the answer you've been looking for.

This program is for straight stairlifts only with a 3-month minimum and includes installation, service, and removal of the lift when you no longer have a need for it.

Wondering if a stairlift rental is right for your needs? Call 401 619-3467 for a FREE evaluation!

Home Healthsmith is Growing!

We've moved into our new office on the upper level of 55 John Clarke Road

in Middletown where we already have one of our warehouses on the lower level. This proximity is obviously very convenient, so we were happy to find the space available.

This expansion gave us the much needed space we needed to hire Barbara Roos, our part-time Administrate Assistant. Barbara brings a wealth of administrative experience to our company which will help us serve our clients' needs even more efficiently.

Barbara can be contacted by email at or by calling our office Toll Free at 1.855.HHSMITH (1.855.447.6484).

Swiss Chard - The New Kale?
by My Chef Lara

I recently heard that people are getting bored of Kale and that Swiss Chard is the new green of choice.

I am not so sure of that, but this month I am offering a recipe that will warm your insides while giving you a fabulous nutrition profile.

Another Happy Home Healthsmith Customer

We recently installed a stairlift and made some modifications to a home in Hope Valley, RI.

"Once I received information about Home Healthsmith from Linda, I knew this was the company I would use. They were able to get to our home to measure and assess our needs within one day of our call. Within two days, Bill and his team had installed a stairlift and grab bars for my husband who was coming home from a nursing home. We deeply appreciate all that they did. He would not have been unable to come home unless our house was made safe and we are both happy he is now home. We have given the Home Healthsmith information to several of our friends and will tell them what a great response we received."
