Tips to Keep Your Home Safe for All

June 2013

Why we do what we do

What makes Home Healthsmith unique? I could tell you what we do, when we do it, and how we would do it, but more important than any of that is WHY we do it.

Truly great companies have a passion for excellence. Take Apple Computer for instance. They manufacture computers, as many other companies do. What sets them apart is their passion for excellence. This culture drives their organization at all levels. It is their WHY!

Home Healthsmith is not as big as Apple, but we share the same drive to innovate and succeed.

We can help you achieve mobility which enhances your freedom, improves your sense of control and protects your personal dignity. Our mission is to provide solutions that allow you to remain in your home as safely as possible, as long as possible.

Give us a call; we would love to share our WHY with you.

Purchased from the US Government in the early 60's, Peter and Dorothy Denault's Jamestown property had been used as a command post during World War II. Concrete command and storage bunkers remain today.

As you would expect from a command post situated to protect approaches to Narragansett Bay, their house sits at the top of a hill. Due to limited flexibility in his knees, Peter needed a specialized lift to ease the transit from their parking area to the front door. The Sterling Model 1000 "Perch" lift, designed to use outdoors in a standing or sitting position, fits this need perfectly.

The travel of the lift is a total of 33 feet. The lift has integral battery back-up in case it is needed during a power loss as well as weather resistant features.

Our service plan assures the lift is always ready to go. We mothball the lift in the fall and re-install in the spring before the Denault's return to their seasonal home.

What is Aging in Place?

Aging in place is a term used to describe a senior living in the residence of their choice as they age, while being able to have necessary support over time as their needs change.

Aging in place planning for quality of life

The focus of aging in place is to help seniors live where they choose and get the help they need. It is more than that, though. The goal of an elderly person (or anyone) wanting to age in place should be to maintain and/or improve their quality of life. In order to do that, a good plan that focuses on your quality of life and covers yourself, home, finances, care and other items should be created as early as possible. This plan should be maintained over time as your situation changes.

Enabling aging in place is what Home Healthsmith is all about. We can help you develop a quality of life plan. Make an appointment for your Safe Home Audit today.

We will continue discussing aging in place in future issues. If you have specific related questions, please email us and we will answer directly.
