PREPARING CHILDREN FOR KINDERGARTEN
Looking for a fun and easy way to give your child the best start in school?

The Coweta Public Library System is pleased to work with the Georgia Public Library System to kick off Georgia's "1,000 Books B4 Kindergarten" program. Research shows that when a child has heard 1,000 books before they start school, they are more likely to begin Kindergarten with the tools needed to learn how to read.

Every book read to your child from birth to kindergarten counts - even books read repeatedly, at story times, Sunday school, and in preschool or daycare. 1,000 books may sound like a lot, but reading just 3 books a day for a year is 1,095 books. Now, include every book a child hears or reads and this feat is accomplished easily in half that time.

As part of the B4 program, children will:
*Complete a B4 Sticker Sheet-each sticker is 100 books.
*Have a book plate placed in a children's book at their library acknowledging their accomplishment at 500 books.
*Receive an invitation to the B4 Graduation Ceremony in May upon reaching 1,000 books.
*Have the option of repeating the program until they enter kindergarten.

B4 is free and open to all Georgia residents; reading logs are available at all CPLS branches and online.
