CASA Lake County's 11th Annual Gala

On May 2, CASA Lake County hosted its 11th annual gala in celebration of the organization's 21st anniversary. The 2015 Gala took place at Ravinia in Highland Park, IL, and with the generosity of over 225 attendees, will allow CASA to continue to recruit and train volunteers who will serve as advocates for abused and neglected children throughout the county. A cocktail hour with live music provided a welcoming start to the evening, followed by a seated dinner, silent and live auctions, and speeches by honorees Chef Art Smith and husband Jesus Salguiero; as well as former "CASA Child" Juliette McAuly. Live auction hits this year included a dinner party for twelve with Chef Art Smith (honoree and former personal chef to Oprah Winfrey), trips to exotic destinations including  Bali, Bermuda, and the Dominican Republic, and an afternoon with Marcus Lemonis, host of "The Profit".   Read more...

Meet CASA's Newest Board Member
 

Jacapo Leonardi is brand new to the CASA Lake County Board. Jacapo was first introduced to CASA Lake County through his good friend, and now fellow Board member, Dan Brennan. The two have known each other for several years - starting back when they were at Eli Lilly in Indianapolis. Both men have previously served together on other non-profit boards. "Dan knows I am a big sucker for kids, and when I met Terri and heard about the mission, that was it."


 Jacapo first got involved with CASA through his charity Wiffle Ball tournament that took place Sept. 2013. He organized teams to play for participating charities, and his team played for CASA and won! Since then, the event has doubled in size and now includes women's and children's teams. The Wiffle Ball tournament is a hit because it allows athletes of all levels to participate; no running, just fielding and hitting. Jacapo plans to continue growing the event, and hopes that CASA Lake County's exposure will grow right along with it. Read more...
