DOYLE LIBRARY CELEBRATES 50 YEARS OF ART
BY SRJC FACULTY AND STAFF
Santa Rosa, Calif. - Santa Rosa Junior College's Doyle Library will be celebrating 50 years of art created by SRJC faculty and staff with a reception on April 26 from 5:30 until 8:00 p.m. The permanent collection, entitled "The Doyle Collection," will be on display on the 3rd and 4th floors of Doyle Library. Admission to the reception is free and open to the public.
Over the past few years, the library has assembled 80 pieces to include in its permanent collection. The collection represents 52 artists who have worked at SRJC from the 1950s to the present. The reception will showcase the various talents of those who teach, create and have contributed to SRJC in various ways.
The works include paintings, sketches, photography, and sculptures that range in size from 12 feet by 8 feet (Lisa Beerntsen's "Headgames" in the stairwell) to a 6 inch by 8 inch sketch by Jim Rosen.
The collection is meant to engage students and to beautify the building, which was designed with an abundance of natural light and large expanses of wall space. The works are spread over 1.5 acres of floor space to provide a visually rich setting in which students can study and socialize.
To view the collection, just Google: "Art in Doyle Library".
Santa Rosa Junior College's Doyle Library is located on the Santa Rosa campus at 1501 Mendocino Avenue, Santa Rosa, CA 95401. A $4 parking fee is required to park on campus. For more information please contact curator Scott Lipanovich at slipanovich@santarosa.edu . |

Bear Facts: Mascot and School Colors
Roscoe is the SRJC Bear Cubs mascot, and the school colors are red and blue. Historically, SRJC was considered a feeder school to UC Berkeley and Stanford. SRJC took the red (scarlet) from Stanford and the blue (navy) from UC Berkeley, and those became the school's colors. Since UC Berkeley's sports teams were the Bears, we became the Bear Cubs. |
|
BearFacts is a publication of the SRJC Student Affairs Office
The purpose of the BearFacts Bulletin is to provide students with information
about SRJC events, activities, engagement opportunities and important deadlines. All submissions can be emailed to the Student Graphic Artist/BearFacts Editor bearfacts@santarosa.edu. Submissions may be edited for length & clarity. |
