New Policy/Procedure

At the January 2012 Board of Trustees meeting, new policy was approved that
updated the SRJC District Smoke-Free Environment Policy and Procedure.

See the following link for the updates
The most notable change is the clear banning of electronic cigarettes, in addition to smoking (anything) and use of any tobacco related products (e.g. chew, clove cigarettes, etc.). With regard to electronic cigarettes, despite the manufacturers' claims that they produce only water vapor, many give off strong odors that others will find offensive. In addition, preliminary testing by the FDA has shown that electronic cigarettes contain carcinogens and toxins of a similar nature to real cigarettes. Finally, the FDA has not approved the electronic cigarette as a smoking cessation device (like the nicotine patch, or gum), and you will find a statement to that effect on the packaging of the items.
