Twelve Native Artists Awarded

The Native Arts and Cultures Foundation, a national charity dedicated to the revitalization, appreciation and perpetuation of Native arts and cultures, has awarded a total of $200,000 in awards to 12 American Indian, Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian artists.

Through the 2013 Artist Fellowships, the foundation recognized Indigenous artists in six disciplines: dance, film, literature, music, traditional and visual arts. The artists, who live in eight states, received awards of $10,000 - $20,000 each.

"It is our mission to provide support and to nurture the creativity of this country's Native artists," says foundation President/CEO T. Lulani Arquette (Native Hawaiian). "We congratulate the 2013 fellows for inspiring their communities, for their vision, their innovation, and for bringing the creative spirit of Native peoples to the world."

Your Contribution

We are immensely honored to be able to award the incredible fellows announced today. No matter what tradition you come from, you know that culture matters deeply. It has the power to bring us together to share and express the values we hold dear.

Yet very few Native tribes, families, and communities have the means to support their artists and culture-bearers. Unless we make a conscious effort to nurture our indigenous artists, these voices will be lost. We believe that it is our collective responsibility to keep the creative spirit alive.

Your contribution today, will honor the elders who share their wisdom, art and craft with the next generation. Your contribution will help Native arts organizations in supporting artists and communities. And your contribution will bring visibility to both emerging and seasoned Native artists and support their growth through award programs like the 2013 Native Arts and Cultures Foundation Artist Fellowships.
