Looking for an experience that will make you a more competitive candidate and improve your job prospects post-graduation? Get yourself a pre-professional internship!
A pre-professional, or noncredit, internship is something you can do that is independent of your Marymount academic requirements and typically occurs before you complete your professional, or for-credit, Marymount internship. Pre-professional internships are a great way to explore a career field, gain experience, learn about the inner workings of an office, solidify your choice of major, earn supplementary income, start networking, and strengthen your resume! Even more, by engaging in a pre-professional internship, you will likely have a MUCH stronger sense of where you want to complete your Marymount-required internship and know many more people who can help connect you with that opportunity.
Bottom-line: Employers want to see candidates who have pursued meaningful opportunities outside of the classroom to supplement their academic learning throughout their college experience, not just their senior year! If the hiring decision comes down to two equally qualified candidates, one of whom has pursued additional internships and one who has not, you can rest assured that the employer will choose the individual with the additional experience!
Even though pre-professional internships are initiated by YOU and do not require any approval from an MU advisor, don't forget that the Center for Career Services is still here to help you find a high quality opportunity. All you need to do is come see us to get started!
