October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer.

The Facts1 in 8 is sobering. It also means the vast majority of us will be personally affected by breast cancer. In 2013, the American Cancer Society estimates that 232,240 women will be diagnosed in the United States. It is projected that 39,620 women will die from breast cancer in 2013.
That means a woman will die from breast cancer, on average, every 13 minutes.

The Good News
There is a growing number of breast cancer survivors because of better screening and early detection, increased awareness, and improved treatment options. Funding is a critical component in providing access to screening in addition to the crucial research to determine the cause and ultimate cure.
