UL 2583, an Outline of Investigation for Fuel Tank Accessories, is a revised testing protocol in which emergency vents have been given their own section and set of requirements. This is an update from the previous listing requirements to include modern automotive fuel compatibility and establish a standard testing protocol.

ANTICIPATED QUESTIONS:

What is the significance of the UL 2583 effective date of 1/1/2015?  This date is for emergency vent manufacturers, any new Fig. 244 Emergency Vents manufactured after this date will be UL 2583 Listed.  We have verified with Underwriters Laboratories that the previous UL Listed Fig. 244 Emergency Vents are perfectly acceptable to use until all such inventory is consumed.  The UL Listing for these Fig. 244 Emergency Vents remains in effect for the life of the emergency vent.

If I have existing UL Listed Fig. 244 Emergency Vents already installed on a tank, do I need to replace them with new UL 2583 e-vents?  No, the UL listing on those emergency vents remains in effect for the life of the vent.

If I currently have UL listed Fig. 244 Emergency Vents on order or in stock, do I still have a UL Listed Emergency Vent?  Yes, we have verified with Underwriters Laboratories that the previous UL Listed Fig. 244 Emergency Vents are perfectly acceptable to use until all such inventory, whether it is in your warehouses or ours, is consumed.  The UL Listing for these emergency vents remains in effect for the life of the emergency vent.

How will I be able to recognize the difference between the previous UL Listed Emergency Vent and the new UL 2583 Listed Emergency Vent? The Fig. 244 Emergency Vents that passed the UL 2583 testing are the same emergency vents you have been buying from Morrison for years.  The only difference between the previously UL Listed Fig. 244 Emergency Vents and the new UL 2583 Listed Emergency Vents is the verbiage on top of the cover, otherwise they are the same Fig. 244 Emergency Vent.  See verbiage differences on top covers below.
