When Many Come Together As One
On Friday, March 21st, students from the "We Are One Inside Out Project" at East High will paste 100 photos of East High students on the exterior of the school in a temporary art installation.

The "We Are One Inside Out Project" in effect  turns East High "inside out," to celebrate the students inside the classrooms of East High, who come together from many countries, ethnic traditions, and cultures. The students leading the "We Are One Inside Out Project" were inspired by their study of French street artist JR in the interdisciplinary Clemente humanities course at East High, started by UHC.  Like JR, the students hope to use art to "change the world" by showing the world its true face.

By sharing 100 faces that show the beautiful diversity at their school, they convey the strength and power that are possible when many come together to demonstrate that we are one, joined by our humanity, the place where we live, and the hopes we have for the future.

This project culminates in two events. Please join us at:

-    East High School on Friday, March 21, 10:00 am, for the installation of the photographs. This will involve pasting 100 large photos, with the help of a fire truck, on the east-facing exterior wall of East High School. The result will be a visually stunning sampling of the students' cultural diversity.

-    East High School on Saturday, March 22, 10:30:-11:00, in combination with East High School's annual Run of the Leopards, for the official  "unveiling" of the project.

The "We Are One Inside Out Project" will be stronger if you are there!

"We Are One Inside Out" is a project of the Utah Humanities Council (UHC) and East High, directed by Utah artist Jorge Rojas. The Clemente/AVID Course that inspired the project is a partnership between UHC, East High, the University of Utah Honors College, Westminster College Honors Program, and University Neighborhood Partners.  The Clemente Course is made possible by a generous grant to UHC from Alternative Visions and through the support of all program partners.

UHC Wins Increased State Appropriation

Huge thanks to Utah's legislature for increasing UHC's annual state appropriation to $85,000! Our sponsor, Davis County Representative Brad Wilson, was joined by a bipartisan group of supporters from both House and Senate. State funding allows UHC to support small, locally initiated projects throughout Utah.

Please thank your legislators for their support--you can find their contact information at:  http://le.utah.gov/GIS/findDistrict.jsp
