Did college pass you by? Let us help you change that by applying for our Venture Course in the Humanities. The humanities are both practical and empowering in our free Venture course, taught by college faculty and accredited by Utah institutions.

Venture is a free, two-semester college humanities course for people of modest means who dare to dream, and provides adults facing economic barriers with a chance to start college. Venture includes sections in literature, American history, art history, philosophy, and writing/critical thinking. Successful students of Venture in Salt Lake City receive credit from Westminster College in Salt Lake City. In Ogden, Weber State University provides credit for Venture. In southern Utah, Venture students receive credit from Southern Utah University.

We are now accepting applications for the Ogden, Salt Lake City, and Cedar City sites. To be eligible for Venture, applicants must be at least 18 years old, able to read a newspaper in English, and living on a low income. Call Jean Cheney at 801.359.9670 for more information and apply here.

Fifteen terrific high school students from across Utah have been participating in our first-ever Student Advisory Council (SAC). Junior and senior students from North Logan to Monticello, and many cities in between, meet every other month to shape UHC's youth programming and to initiate humanities-connected projects in their schools or communities.

We are looking forward to a second terrific year of working with our Student Advisory Council and we need some new members!

UHC is now accepting applications for our 2013-2014 Student Advisory Council. If you are in 10th, 11th, or 12th grade and want to make a difference in your school and community, we want to hear from you! Please contact Kathleen Gardner, Jean Cheney, or Michael McLane at 801.359.9760 for more information and download this application to get started.

Help us spread the word to any schools and students who might be interested!
