St. Francis of Assisi School Newsletter

March 25, 2015

Dear St. Francis of Assisi Families,

I would like to take this opportunity to recognize parents who support the school community by serving on the Parent Advisory Board and on Board Committees.  Almost every day I am reminded of their commitment to support school programs.  It is normal for committees to meet before, during, after school, or at night.  These parents work hard to support school programs and initiatives.  Much of their work is visible to the school community, such as the Auction, Casino Night, New Parent Social, Parents and Families of Faith nights, but a lot of their efforts go unnoticed.  They work behind the scenes planning and assisting school administrators with fundraising activities, marketing, budget preparation, technology integration, and strategic plan implementation.  These parents plan, organize, mobilize volunteers, and execute dozens of activities that benefit our students, create a strong community, and support the school's mission.  Along with teachers, administrators, and staff, they are a critical part of the team that drives school success.  They are

instrumental in creating an excitement and energy within the school community.

Please join me in thanking them for their generous service to the school community:

Carline Rule of the Week

Please remember you may not pick and choose where you want to drop off your student.  Follow the flow of the carline and have your student exit when the cars stop.  Although the carline directors are there to help, they are not valets.  If your student is unable to exit the vehicle on their own, please park and walk them in.

Also, please remember to always be courteous to the carline directors, they are volunteering their time to keep all the children safe and the carline flowing smoothly.

A full list of the carline rules is available on the school website.  Thank you for always following the carline rules.

Measles Advisory

COUNTY OF ORANGE

HEALTH CARE AGENCY
EPIDEMIOLOGY & ASSESSMENT

Measles Advisory
 January 6, 2015

Measles was recently confirmed in an Orange County resident with no known travel outside of the Orange County.  In addition, several confirmed and suspect measles cases have been reported in
California and Utah with travel to Orange County in mid-December during their exposure period.  Common exposure locations include the Disneyland and California Adventure theme parks but since the index case has not been identified, there may have been additional exposures by the case in other locations within the county.  Now with several cases identified in Southern California, exposures may
also be occurring in other areas and additional cases are expected.

Measles symptoms usually begin 10-12 days (up to 21 days) after exposure with a prodrome of fever as high as 105°F (40.5°C), malaise, cough, runny nose, and conjunctivitis.  Two to four days following
onset of the prodrome, a maculopapular rash develops.  The rash usually begins around the ears and hairline and then spreads down to cover the face, trunk, arms, and legs.
