PCHTF Executive Director Eric Burmeister was invited to participate in the Business Record's Ignite Power Breakfast on October 14. Burmeister was one of seven community leaders asked to share their passion in a fast-paced five-minute presentation. He chose to speak about the critical role of safe, stable, and affordable housing in our region's health, education, and economic development. Watch the video of the presentation to learn how housing acts as a foundation for the other quality of life issues we value in Central Iowa.

Talking Housing and Health in Washington Healthy Homes East Bank team visits members of Congress

Healthy Homes East Bank partners recently returned from a trip to Washington D.C. Visiting Nurse Services of Iowa VP of community health services, Cari Spear, and Claire Richmond, Healthy Homes East Bank project manager, had the opportunity to share Healthy Homes East Bank's story with three members of Congress: Representative David Young, Senator Chuck Grassley, and Senator Joni Ernst. Cari and Claire sat down with each to explain the origin of this unique collaboration between hospitals, public health agencies, and housing providers, and how Iowans are benefitted by addressing the poor housing that leads to asthma in three Des Moines neighborhoods.

Written reports are helpful, but there are times when hearing and seeing firsthand is what it takes to have confidence in the work being done to improve the lives of others. That's why as a new PCHTF Board Member and member of the Operating & Supportive Services (OSS) committee I made sure to have a seat on the Fall Bus Tour visiting the programs that receive OSS funding from PCHTF. Little did I know that at every stop there would be stories, programs and living examples that echoed a mantra I've carried for years - "The most dangerous thing you can tell people is that they can do anything, without showing them how to do it. " The service providers we heard from are clearly committed to showing the how .

Help our friends at Viva East Bank find gently used winter clothing items to ensure that every East Bank resident is warm this winter! All donated items will be given to children and parents at a holiday party on December 10.
