Hawthorn Hill - 3940 5th Ave Renovation

  

During 2011, Hawthorn Hill received four single family homes donated by Wells Fargo. The homes were foreclosures, and although structurally sound, they were in very poor condition.  Hawthorn Hill accepted the donated homes to add to the housing inventory for its permanent supportive housing program, The Home Connection.

Community Education campaign rolls out

  

Later this month, nurses, teacher's aides, customer service reps, bank tellers, emergency medical technicians and other folks who contribute to the quality of life in our county will be asking you that simple question.  You'll see them on posters and billboards, newspaper ads and flyers.  It's all part of a campaign to educate the community about the types of individuals who may need access to safe, stable and affordable housing.

The "Go To" Authority on Affordable Housing

 

2009-2011 Des Moines Statistics

  

Recently, the Polk County Public Works Department needed information for a grant application. Dave Williamson, Housing Services/Code Enforcement Manager in the Planning/Development Division, immediately thought of the Polk County Housing Trust Fund as the place to go for information on Housing.  Mr. Williamson asked Trust Fund staff for specific data about the City of Des Moines.  In a little over an hour later a full report was delivered via email.  The following is a segment of the data provided.

Community leaders respond to homeless issues 

 

The Des Moines metropolitan area continues to face a problem with homelessness.  Each winter there is a crescendo of concern that follows media accounts of folks living in tents during subzero weather and shelter services being stretched beyond thin.  Make no mistake, the problem of homelessness in the Des Moines metropolitan area is not seasonal, it is a constant, year-round struggle for those without a place to live and those in the community trying to help them.
