Halloween is right around the corner, and with it the relief of cooler weather! But before the flurries fly, we've got some fun ideas for the furry friends in your life!

Is your dog a little diva? Check out one of the pet costume contests happening around the city! We couldn't resist joining in the fun, so The Pet Maven is sponsoring a special prize for this years' Tudor City Green's parade!

October is also Adopt-a-Dog month, and what better way to treat yourself--and a lonely dog--than opening your heart and home to a new four-legged friend!

And if you take any cute photos of your pet in costume, please share them with us on Facebook! We'd love to see! Have a safe and happy Halloween!

Nothing Trumps a Pet Parade!

Calling all Trumps, Pumpkins and Goblins! We're happy to announce The Pet Maven is once again sponsoring one of the prizes for the second annual Tudor City Green's Halloween Pet Parade.

One lucky pooch will win an in home small dog pet groom from Helen, and there are lots of other prizes, too! Categories include cutest, scariest, most original, and more! We're not sure if Presidential Debate is one of the categories, but if it is, we suspect this little guy would win!

So doll up your favorite doggy and join in the fun! The parade and contest run from noon to 1:30 pm in Tudor City's North Park Saturday, October 31st.
Treat yourself!

Have you been pining for the pitter-patter of four little feet? You're in luck! October is the American Humane Association's Adopt-a-Dog month.

The AHA's website is full of info on doggy adoption, including tips on knowing whether you're ready to add a new dog to your life, and ways to keep your pet healthy and safe once you bring them home!

After you've done a little research, you might want to take a peek at Paws Like Me, a super-fun app that's set up like a dating site, and includes a personality-matching algorithm designed to match you to your dream dog! The site currently only matches dogs and humans, but cats and other critters are coming soon!
Safety tips for Halloween

Just a quick reminder to keep your pets safe this Halloween! While most New Yorkers don't allow their pets to roam free, there are still a few tricks a curious pet can encounter!

For dogs, make sure to keep all Halloween candy out of reach, especially chocolate, which is very toxic to dogs! And while cats aren't as likely to get into the sweet treats, they are more likely to be fascinated by sparkly party favors and be-ribboned wrappers!

Just a few minutes of care can keep your furry children happy and healthy for many years to come! More Tips from Pet MD
