Animals are amazing creatures. They brighten our days and offer comforting companionship. That's why this issue is all about ways of showing our love.

We have an early reminder to make plans for the 4th of July! Every year we hear about pets who are sent into a stressful frenzy when the fireworks begin. We've found a couple of helpful resources that we hope will help you soothe them through this noisy holiday.

Did you know that June 22-26 is Take Your Pet to Work Week? We've found some fun resources of ways to celebrate, either by bringing your best friend to work, or even using the office as a way to promote adoption.

Freedom from Fireworks Freak-Outs

For you and I, Fourth of July Fireworks are a cause for delight, but for our furry friends they can be terrifying.

But don't fret! With a little preparation, your pet can survive the holiday with a lot less stress. There are several products that help soothe both cats and dogs, including garments and pheromone based sprays. Desensitization therapies can help acclimate even the most jumpy pets to common stressful noises like fireworks and thunder. No matter what method you use to keep your pets calm this Fourth of July, please ensure they are tagged and micro-chipped, so in case they do bolt and escape, you can quickly be reunited.
Don't Forget to Book Your Sitter!

You didn't think I saw those suitcases you snuck out of storage, but I did! I saw them when I was doing my regular 4 AM perimeter check, and I have to say I am disappointed.

I thought you were ready to settle down and embrace the complete no-outdoors lifestyle like I have. It's been that way for me ever since you had me fixed--I'm assuming that's what caused my change of heart--because you fixed my desire for travel, adventure, and the lure of new horizons. Now all I crave are my nightly perimeter checks--and you, of course!

Well, if you must travel, can you at least reserve my favorite sitter? You know, the one who gives me chin scratches almost as nice as yours? Almost! But please don't be jealous! I still love you. In fact, I left you a little present in your suitcase!
Take Your Dog to Work Day

June 26 is the 17th annual Take Your Dog to Work Day, a holiday created by Pet Sitter's International to celebrate dogs for being such great companions, as well as to show non-pet owners the joy of pet ownership and adoption.

There are a whole pack of ways to celebrate beyond bringing Bowser to the bank! You can organize fun events like photo contests, or maybe plan a fund-raiser for a local shelter. There are so many ways to show your love!

Check Out These Kittens, Literally!

A local government office building in Las Cruces, New Mexico has come up with a brilliant way to benefit both staff and a local animal shelter: a Kitty Library!

Since shelters are often off the beaten path, and the Doņa Ana County office building sees such an enormous amount of traffic each day, they decided to showcase some of the cats they have up for adoption in a special enclosure in the lobby.

The Kitty Kondo hosts a whole caboodle of adorable adoptables, who can be "checked out" by any of the building's more than 800 workers during the day. It helps socialize the kittens, and gives workers some much needed stress relief. And, sometimes, something wonderful happens. Tiffany Tillison, the woman who took the original photo that took the internet by storm, adopted her cat Lucy through the program.

The project has captured the hearts of animal lovers everywhere, even earning a spot on the evening news. It kind of makes you think: why should cat sitters and groomers have all the fun? Wouldn't your work day be just a little bit better if you could canoodle with a kitten now and again?
