Greetings!
It's hard to believe it's almost fall, but it's true! It's that time of year when we start planning for going back to school, and getting ourselves organized for the winter ahead. Fall's the perfect time to schedule important tasks, like taking care of your annual doctors visits. And while you're at it, why don't you take your pets for their check-ups too; the end of August marks Holistic Pet Day, after all!
And while you're prepping for winter, why not attend a free emergency preparedness seminar? With tips from experts from the New York City Veterinary Emergency Response Team (NYC VERT) and the Office of Emergency Management ( OEM), and helpful ideas by co-sponsors Kalvig & Shorter, Denise Trainer, and Pet Central, you'll be ready for what ever Mother Nature throws our way!
Have a safe, wonderful Labor Day Holiday!

Weather the Storm: Emergency Preparedness for You and Your Pets
Fall is here! Time to go back to school! But if the past few years are any indication, it's also the time for increasingly severe autumn storms. Hurricane Irene and Super Storm Sandy taught us the importance of being prepared, but wouldn't it be nice if those life-lessons were a bit less rainy, windy, dark and scary?
We have just the thing for you! From 5 to 8 pm, Wednesday, August 28, New Yorkers can learn emergency planning and preparedness from the pros! A plethora of pet experts will present a free evening of education on emergency preparedness for people and pets. It's happening at the offices of Kalvig & Shorter, 133 East 39th Street. For more information and to reserve your free spot, contact Kalvig & Shorter or Denise Mange.

Labor Day? What's "labor?"
And what's that suitcase doing out on the bed? Are you gonna be doing that "travel" nonsense again? You know I go into "extra shed" mode when I smell travel on the wind.
At least make sure you've booked my favorite sitter at The Pet Maven. You know, the one that knows how to skritch under my chin just right? You called already? Great! Maybe I won't have to pee in your suitcase after all.

They're everything to you: Make sure they have everything they need
August 30th is Holistic Pet Day. A holistic approach to pet wellness means looking at the big picture when it comes to your pet. We feel better when we're happy in mind, body, and spirit; why should it be any different for our pets?
Holistic health starts with good food, plenty of water, and regular check-ups by a veterinarian. Keep your pet active and engaged with plenty of physical activity and personal attention, any time spent bonding with your furry friend is good for their soul and yours. Many bodywork practitioners and even veterinary offices offer alternative health treatments like massage, acupuncture, and reiki for pets.
National Holistic Pet Health Day was founded by the Animal Miracle Foundation and is a great reminder to cherish and nurture our pets. They give us so much, it's only fair to return the favor.

Crashes, crashes, we all fall down!
Isn't it lovely to recline at ease, and watch the fall leaves float gently to the ground? Not so much being jolted awake by the sound of your glasses, keys, remote, and favorite vase hitting the hardwood floor. Bad kitty!
If your cat's into deconstructive redecoration, they might need an outlet for that energy, like a cat tree, or special walkways and perches. If you're worried about all this clashing with your decor, just look to The Cats' House for some amazing inspiration!
