Greetings!

While we two-legged creatures celebrate American Independence on July 4th, our four-legged friends are blessed with an entire week!

Animal Rights Awareness Week falls on the third week of July each year, but as far as we're concerned, animals' rights are celebration-worthy year 'round!

So in that spirit ...

We, The Pet Maven, in order to form a more perfect union between pet owners and their pets, establish a healthy base of good education, reliable (and tasty) health care, and a loving, safe, furrever home where all pets, no matter their breed or lack of pedigree, can live safely and in harmony (unless it's those pesky squirrels outside) for the entirety of their natural-born lives.
Won't you sign on, too?

A special guest column by Denise Mange of Denise Mange Dog Training, certified Dog Obedience Trainer.

No one ever forgets their favorite teacher, especially the one who taught them how to fetch! Obedience training is a great educational tool that helps instill confidence in dogs, as well as an understanding of what is expected of them in social interactions with furry and human friends alike.

Like our own educational system, obedience commands can range from basic to advanced, building upon learned commands as the complexity of each increases. Whether you have a brand new puppy or are just looking to strengthen your bond with your furry companion, obedience commands can help start you off on the right paw!

Right to Lifelong Care

Our animals depend on us, and once they're part of our lives they shouldn't have to lose the comfort of a safe, loving environment. Sadly, sometimes pets outlive their owners. That's why 2nd Chance 4 pets exists. This non-profit helps pet parents plan for their fur-kids' future, even if they can't be a part of it themselves.
... we need to discuss my reservations.
Seriously, folks. I know you love me, and I know you love to travel. But why do you always wait till the last minute to get me a sitter? It stresses me out! And you know what happens when I get stressed out. Remember that $500 goose down duvet? Yeah. That wasn't pretty.

Here's a tip! You can reserve your favorite sitter as far in advance as you'd like, even if you don't know your exact travel dates! All they need is a general date range, and they'll save you a spot! So even if you're still figuring out dates and logistics, you can rest assured my favorite sitter will be available! And you can also rest assured that your new Duvet will survive to see 2014.
