Microchips are one of the most widely used and reliable means of permanently ID-ing your pet. Nearly all shelters and vet offices routinely scan lost pets, so be sure to keep your profile updated with new phone numbers and addresses if you move.

What to Do if Your Pet Gets Lost
A lost pet is an owner's worst nightmare. But quick action and, of course, a tag, can greatly increase your chances of finding each other again.
You know your pet, so think: how far might they go? Where might they hide? Scour the area and call for your pet. Check under vehicles, in bushes, or with neighbors.
File a report at local shelter and rescue groups. Post flyers and put listing on sites like Craigslist. Make sure to use a photo and watch found-pet listings, too.
Put social media to work! Facebook, Twitter, even personal blogs are a great way to get the word out about your pet.
Finally: don't lose hope! With a little perseverance and the kindness of strangers your pet can find its way home.

Microchips Work: Lost & Found
If you're still skeptical about microchips, maybe this tale of a microchip and a monster will convince you. Both played key roles in reuniting a lost kitty with owner, NYPD Officer Jimmy Helliesen.
The cat, whose name is Disaster, was found in true New York style: wandering hopelessly in the chaos of Times Square. Suddenly, he was grabbed by a zombie!
The zombie's real name was Jeremy Zelkowitz, and he took Disaster to BluePearl. They scanned Disaster for a chip, and as easy as that he was on his way home, after a two year absence.
It just goes to show, microchips work! In spite of this story's touch of the macabre, it has a very chipper ending.
