Take a Seat at the Head of the Class!

More campus excitement continues beginning Monday, November 4 when a special fall Nyack Phonathon begins.

Current students will call and update Nyack College and Alliance Theological Seminary alumni about campus developments including the latest on the relocation of our New York City campus. Best news of all is that a generous friend of the College, who wants to encourage alumni giving, has agreed to match donations of any amount-dollar for dollar-up to $100,000. This unprecedented offer applies to all gifts received before December 31, 2013.

It's being called "the Alumni Chair Challenge"--created just for college and seminary grads! Graduating classes across the decades are being invited to compete in a fundraising initiative to become the leader in this unique fundraising initiative for Nyack and ATS. The goal is to fund the purchase of the 1,850 New York City campus chairs (at $350 each) or receive donations of any amount.

All alumni can help us make this two-week Phonathon (November 4-16) a record-breaking one! No gift is too small (or too large)! You choose the amount or you may opt to purchase a campus chair. And the choice is yours!
Homecoming 2013 Was a Blast!

Celebrating were alumni, faculty, staff, friends, and family who all shared in the event-filled weekend that began on Friday morning with Founder's Day Chapel followed by a NYC Adventure where guests visited Nyack's new campus at Battery Park, a walking tour of 11 Lower Manhattan landmarks, and dinner at the historic Fraunces Tavern. Chairman of the Board of Trustees Dr. Ronald E. Eastman welcomed alumni and friends at the Chairman's Welcome Dinner on Friday evening. Inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame were Rev. W. Paul Braun '77 and Mr. Timothy E. Conway '08 at the Alumni Athlete and Hall of Fame Banquet.

Alumni and friends gathered bright and early on Saturday morning for the Running Warrior 3K Walk and 5K Road Race followed by brunch with President Michael Scales. Saturday events also included various alumni athletic games; Student Activities Marketplace; Lil' Warriors Kidz Zone; AGSC Alumni's Luncheon, Lecture, and Panel Discussion, Preserving the "Sandwich Generation;" and the Annual Alumni Homecoming Concert: Pardington Hall Centennial Concert. Dr. Steven Fine of Yeshiva University Lectures at Nyack

News from Nyack's Graduate Program in Ancient Judaism and Christian Origins (AJCO) was shared by Constance Diggs, AJCO program coordinator, on the recent visit from guest lecturer, Dr. Steven Fine, professor of Jewish history and director of the Yeshiva University Center for Israel Studies in Manhattan.

AJCO students were joined by undergraduates from Nyack's History, Bible, and Art departments, and guests of Yeshiva University on the New York City campus for an intimate recount of Dr. Fine's work on the Arch of Titus Digital Restoration Project in Rome, Italy.

A cultural historian, Dr. Fine fielded questions that led to a two-hour dialogue about art, history, culture, and religion. With photos chronicling his work in Rome from June 5-7, 2012 where he led an international team of scholars from the Yeshiva University Center for Israel Studies in partnership with the Soprintendenza Speciale per i Beni Archeologici di Roma. The project is part of a pilot study of the Arch of Titus in the Roman Forum, the ancient civic center of Rome, Italy. The focus of attention was the Menorah panel and the relief showing the deification of Titus at the apex of the arch.

The arch was originally dedicated after the death of Emperor Titus in 81 CE and celebrates his victory in the Jewish War of 66-74 CE, which climaxed with the destruction of Jerusalem and her Temple in the summer of 70 CE. In the next phase, the team plans to expand the search for ancient paint over the entire surface of the arch, which will also be scanned in 3D. The data collected will enable the Yeshiva University team to create a three-dimensional digital model of how the arch originally appeared, including the colors decorating its surface. The model will be added to Rome Reborn, a 3D digital model of the entire city of Rome at the peak of its development.

"This was another exciting event for AJCO. We are so proud to be able to expose our graduate students, and the greater Nyack College community, to the culturally rich history that bridges the origins of Christianity and Judaism. It is exposure to projects like this that helps to bring biblical text and its history to life for our students," shared Dr. Steven Notley, director of AJCO. "The first year of our program is off to a good start and we're excited for what's to come."

The Increasing Demand for Long Term Care

Over the next eighteen years, 80 million Americans will turn 50. This unprecedented increase in our aging population will significantly impact the demand-and therefore the costs-for long term care (LTC) services. It makes financial sense to consider LTC insurance now because securing coverage today could be far more economical than paying for uninsured LTC expenses in the future.

Our Alumni Insurance Program advisors are here to help. Their considerable experience will help you navigate the options to find the best policies for you. For more info, including free quotes and free guidance, click here
