A Note From Miss June

Dear ECC Families,

Welcome!

The beginning of school will always be my favorite time of year.  It's about new beginnings and traditions. Did you take lots of pictures, did you have a special breakfast or a special morning ritual? I love hearing about traditions, they're what build families and memories!

I hope that as this year begins, you will build traditions that include the Early Childhood Center. Maybe it will include attending our Family Nights beginning with one of our signature events, Big Truck Night. You and your child can see and touch many big vehicles and have the chance to ride in a big school bus together!  It is September 15, 6:00 - 7:30, you won't want to miss it!

I am so excited about our PTO this year! Dawn Longbine is providing excellent leadership as they plan for the Walk 'N Roll Fun Night Fundraiser. It is wonderful to see so many parents get involved in planning this. More details are listed in this newsletter. Join in!

One more opportunity for parents and community members to participate in is our Site Council. Site Council meets 4-5 times each year and gives input to our school.   Our meetings are held in the evening and last an hour. Please contact me if you are interested!

Please take a look at the calendar for this year and make plans to attend activities with your child!

Yours for the journey of childhood,

Miss June

 Parents as Teachers

Parents as Teachers Home Visit Families:

It Is Important That The Families Who Receive Our Services Make Every Effort To Keep Their Scheduled Home Visit Appointments.

In compliance with our state funding requirements, PAT must complete a pre-determined number of home visits for every family we serve.

The Parents As Teachers program receives funding through a grant from the Kansas State Department of Education that is matched by the Maize Public Schools District, USD #266.

Our program holds each parent educator accountable for completing their monthly visits with each family.

We understand that cancellations due to illness or an emergency may be unavoidable. If you have to cancel, please:

  • contact your parent educator as soon as possible to reschedule a cancelled visit.
  • be flexible. A visit may need to be rescheduled over lunch or at nap time. We recognize that we understand your time is valuable. Should your family find that the personal visit service is creating a burden on your time or no longer meets your needs, let your parent educator know. We have families on our waiting list who are anxiously waiting for their opportunity to benefit from this valuable service

 Think Big, Start Small
Think BIG and start small with resources for Kansas families.

Are you a childcare provider, health care professional, government agency, or community organization? Download the entire Think Big! Start Small. toolkit here, with resources tailored specifically to your audience.

This toolkit is designed to reinforce four key messages that will improve health outcomes for young children:
  • Better Beverages: Beverages play a big role in children's health. Water or low-fat milk are better for healthy development than sugary drinks.
  • Unplug Under 2: Screen time interferes with healthy brain development. Limit screen time to less than two hours a day for kids two and older.
  • Breastfeeding Benefits: Breastfeeding has many benefits. It reduces infants' risk of infection and disease and lowers moms' risk of health problems, like diabetes.
  • Right Rewards: Teach kids healthy habits. Don't reward good behavior with unhealthy foods and don't use physical activity as a form of punishment. \
