The Skinny On Obesity
The Skinny on Obesity (Ep. 1): An Epidemic for Every Body

Think you're immune to the impacts of obesity? It's time to think again. In this remarkable first video in a series from the University of California you'll learn why a calorie is in fact not just a calorie, and that recent changes in our eating patterns mean that obesity is a public health problem that affects everyone in one way or another. For more detail on the causes as well as things you can do to reverse the ill effects, even if you are normal weight, click here.

What Are People Saying?
"Joan gives practical recommendations on how we can best take charge of our health and maintain our independence." ~ Sen (ret.) John Glenn

Dr. Joan's Life Tip of The Month

If you do not have even modest stretching as part of your routine, consider taking advantage of wintertime to begin. You can do it anytime, anywhere, and resources for how to start are everywhere.

What is Dr Joan up to?

 - A year has gone by since the publication of Sitting Kills, Moving Heals and interest in finding solutions to the consequences of the sitting epidemic continues to grow, not least with respect to obesity as well as improving the mobility and quality of life of more elderly individuals.

- As promised I am pleased to announce that the e-book version of Adventures in Chocolate is now available for $8.99 at Lulu's. It will be ready at Barnes & Noble (for the Nook) shortly and will let you know as soon as they publish.

- On January 27th did a Book Salon for Adventures in Chocolate in Alexandria, VA, hosted by Barbara Beach Esq. We had a great time with wonderful food, drink, and challenging discussion on the book and its recipes. Those attending took part in a chocolate tasting and those who bought books also received chocolate samples packed in a bright red bag ready for Valentines. Have you ever thought of organizing one in your home, for any of our books? Email me to find out when we may be in your area next.

Words of Wisdom
"The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest his patient in the care of the human frame, in diet and in the cause and prevention of disease." ~ Thomas Jefferson (wise, but not yet prescient!)
