TABC Beats all Other
New Jersey Schools in YU's Model United Nations
TABC students participated in Yeshiva University's 26th annual Model United Nations Conference, which took place in Stamford, Connecticut. TABC competed with over 450 other students from 45 other schools, across the United States and Canada and as far as Brazil and South Africa. The TABC delegation of 13, representing the countries of Iran and Japan, took home a total of three awards (two Best Delegates and one Honorable Mention). The delegation placed 5th overall beating out all other New Jersey schools. The TABC team showed a mastery of public speaking, research and derech eretz throughout the entire conference. The students returned to school with new friends, new perspectives and new skills as the TABC YUNMUN team is already gearing up for 2017! For more photos, click here.

College Bowl Remains Undefeated After Latest Match

Last Thursday, February 18, the College Bowl team travelled to Kushner to compete in their second random trivia competition this year. Expertly led by their seasoned coach, Manny Landau, both the JV and Varsity teams performed excellently under pressure and won all three of their matches, advancing their undefeated records to 7-0 and remaining one of the only two undefeated teams in the entire Yeshiva League. We congratulate the College Bowl team on their impressive victory and wish them Hatzlacha Rabba in their next competition on March 17.
Freshman Class
STORMs Broadway
"Amazing" was the word most often heard as the freshmen boarded the bus to return to school after seeing the matinee performance of Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time on February 24th. All of the ninth grade students had read and discussed the book in their English classes prior to seeing the Broadway show and were intrigued by the ingenious staging that made the main character's emotional experience come alive before their eyes in a visually exciting way. The English teachers, Dr. Master, Mrs. Edelman, Mrs. Miller, Mrs. Hirsch and Ms. Burstein, who accompanied their classes, were eager to hear the students' post-show comments. Book Day 2016 is Coming!
After weeks of reading and discussing The Other Wes Moore, Book Day, which will take place on Tuesday, March 8th, is less than two weeks away! Book Day coordinators, Dr. Carol Master and Mrs. Leah Moskovits, have been busy setting up an exciting schedule. Our day will begin with a video of State Senator Corey Booker addressing the TABC students to be followed by an exciting keynote speaker, a former famous Rutgers football player. Workshops, given by faculty members and outside presenters, will be held on topics related to free will, addiction, our juvenile justice system, Orthodox Jews in prison, being a Rhodes Scholar and the effects of nature and nurture, to name a few.
Junior College Night
The junior class college guidance meeting for parents and students will be held on Tuesday, March 1st at 7:30 P.M. The meeting is an opportunity for the College Guidance office to offer an overview of the college admissions process and the roles and responsibilities of all involved. We look forward to greeting every junior and at least one other member of their family at the meeting. The College Guidance department meets individually with every junior family. To schedule an appointment please call Mrs. Joanne Oppenheim  at extension 139 from Monday through Thursday. Prime time slots will be filled on a first come first served basis, so we encourage you to call as soon as possible.
12th Grade AP US Government and Politics Trip
to NJ State House
This past week as part of their study of the Government of the United States, the Advanced Placement U.S. Government and Politics class traveled to Trenton, New Jersey to visit the home of the New Jersey state government.  In addition to seeing the home of our state government, the students brought their study to life.  The first part of the trip involved a tour of the State House including a visit to the Assembly and Senate chambers.  The students learned how our state government works and some of the differences between state and federal governments.  The tour also included a visit to the Governor's office and the Governor's press room.

Wes Moore and
Moshe Rabbeinu:
Book Day Enters the
Chumash Discussion
Rabbi Blau's Chumash shiurim discussed whether or not Moshe Rabbeinu had the potential to  become assimilated in Pharoah's home instead of  becoming Moshe Rabbeinu. The discussion started from the Ibn Ezra on Shemot 2:3, who felt that Moshe had to grow up in Pharoah's house in order to not have  a slave mentality. The shiurim brought in this year's book day book The Other Wes Moore, which focuses on two individuals with the same name and similar backgrounds, one who became a Rhodes Scholar and the other who ended up in prison. The shiurim analyzed what sort of factors would have lead each to embark on the path that they ultimately took.
Workshop Statistics
Estimates With Confidence
Mrs. Silverman's Workshop Statistics class had a delicious introduction to confidence intervals. After randomly selecting bags of M&Ms from Walgreen's on State Street, they counted the candies to find what proportion were green. They used this sample statistic and their knowledge of the normal distribution to determine with 95% confidence that between 13% and 17% of the M&Ms in that shipment to Walgreen's are green.

Alumni Pride
We are very proud of Yosef Glatter '15 who had a Dvar Torah in the YU S. Daniel Abraham Israel Program E-Newsletter this week!
The Dvar Torah begins:
There is a seemingly strange commandment found in the very beginning of this week's parsha. The Torah commands every single Jew- rich and poor, to bring a half-shekel donation to the Mishkan. Why does the Torah require a half-shekel, no more, no less? Why can't the rich give more, and why can't the poor give less? The Nesivos Shalom gives a simple yet vital reason to explain why we need a set shiur for all of Klal Yisrael to contribute to the building of the Mishkan.
For the analysis and answer to this intriguing question, click here for the full Dvar Torah.
