College Guidance
MORE EXCITING ACCEPTANCES

The results keep coming in! We are very pleased to announce that this past week Jeremy Rosenblatt was accepted early action to the Engineering program at the University of Michigan and Tamir Felsen was accepted to the Isenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst with the Chancellor's Scholarship. More acceptances from a number of schools should be available in January when many admissions offices reopen.
JEWISH LIFE ON CAMPUS: INFORMED CHOICES

"What an amazing program! So much information and so many knowledgeable student representatives under one roof!" These were some of the many positive comments heard after our annual Jewish Life on Campus Program, held Wednesday night, December 23rd, for the junior parents and students of Torah Academy of Bergen County and Ma'ayanot. All felt privileged to hear from 28 student representatives and JLIC rabbi/educators, hailing from almost twenty universities, including such varied schools as Yale, Princeton, Cornell, SUNY at Binghamton and Albany, Cooper Union, New York University, Columbia/Barnard, University of Pennsylvania, University of Chicago, Boston University, Johns Hopkins, University of Maryland, Rutgers, Queens, CCNY Engineering, University of Michigan, Washington University and Yeshiva University. The presentation was followed by an informal question and answer period in the gym. Both students and parents appreciated each student's highlighting what makes his/her college "Jewishly" unique, with many in the audience filling their programs with notes and others staying late into the evening to ask their specific questions of the many students and rabbis who participated in the evening. TABC Engineering
Binds Kodesh and Chol
TABC put its 3D printer to good use,  making  a Kiddush cup for Shabbat, another example of Torah U'Madda informing whatever our students learn. The printing was done in conjunction with TABC's Engineering class. The class begins with team building exercises to prepare students for the project-based learning that is one of ultimate goals of the class. The engineering students  then utilize Java, a processing language, to create graphics. Finally the class focuses on electronics, using Arduino, an open source electronic platform. We are proud to afford our students opportunities to use state of the art technology, as we prepare them for the needs of the 21st century.

TABC Workshop Statistics
Takes a Spin at Probability
On the last day of Chanukah, Workshop Statistics spun dreidels to  demonstrate rules of probability. Each group kept track of the number of Gimels in a run of 5 spins and repeated this process 10 times. This began our unit on simulation, and demonstrated the law of large numbers.

9R English Goes on Their
Own Odyssey
Mrs. Miller's ninth grade English students recently completed an interactive group project. Each group received a book of Homer's Odyssey and an iPad. They created graphic novels based on their assigned book using the app BookCreator. Students employed drawing, animation, and photography to tell the story of what happened in their assigned book to their classmates.

Rabbi Grossman & his Mishna Classes Make a Siyyum
On Wednesday, December 23, Rabbi Grossman, along with his Y5 and Y6 Mishna classes made a siyyum on Masechet Baytza.  Rabbi Grossman sponsored the siyyum in memory of his father, Mr. Arthur Grossman ZT"L, whose second yahrtzeit is this coming Shabbat.  The spread included bagels, scrambled eggs, French toast, and hash browns.  The meal was topped off with Dunkin Donuts for dessert.  Mazal Tov to all involved on this great accomplishment, and we wish the best of luck to the class as they begin Masechet Shabbat. For more photos click here.

Riverdale Shabbaton
This past weekend marked our first ever TABC takes Riverdale by STORM ShabbatonSixty five students joined their friends and family members in Riverdale for an amazing Shabbat. After dinner at our hosts, all of the students and a nice group of prospective students joined Rabbis Malitzky, Y. Mandelstam and Rich for an uplifting and lively oneg at the home of Yonatan Fine '18. With amazing singing, hearing an outstanding duet from freshman phenoms, Ben Antosofsky and Dovid Pearlman, delicious food, and a dvar Torah by Rabbi Malitzky, the oneg was amazing. Students were treated to hear from guest (and Riverdale resident) Yehuda Shmidman '99, one of our Annual Dinner honorees, who joined us for the oneg.

On Shabbat day, after an informative and interesting panel discussion with Rabbis Mandelstam and Rich, students ate lunch and heard inspiring divrei Torah from Gavi Smith '16 and Rabbi Mandelstam. After a short break, we walked to the Young Israel of North Riverdale, led by TABC parent Rabbi Shmuel Hain, for mincha and seuda shlishit. We all had the pleasure to hear a shiur from Rabbi Rich on the topic of being מלוה אורחים and its connection to the parsha.

The shabbaton concluded with a trip to the Devils game and pizza back at TABC.

A special thanks to our Riverdale families for hosting so many of our students for Shabbat. We look forward to more events in your community.
