Israel Advocacy
Sgt. Benjamin Anthony, founder of Our Soldiers Speak, addressed TABC last week. Drawing on his experiences in the IDF, he very poignantly stressed the importance of defending Israel from its critics. The speech was in conjunction with the Israel Advocacy course that is required for all seniors. The course, which has been part of TABC's curriculum for over a decade, strives to prepare our talmidim to be able to present Israel's perspective when discussing issues on college campuses or other venues where it may arise. The course exposes our talmidim to a rigorous understanding of the historical development of the current  reality, starting with the beginning of modern Zionism. We believe that an in-depth knowledge of the history is a necessary prerequisite for empowering our students to discuss the issues appropriately.
Tzurba D'Rabbanan
The talmidim in the Tzurba d'Rabbanan Gemara program were privileged to hear a shiur from Rav Baruch Simon, one of the distinguished Roshei Yeshiva of Yeshiva University. After experiencing the sweetness of Rav Simon's Torah, they partook in the sweetness of Dougie's. We are proud that the talmidim dedicate an extra period of Torah every day to improve both their bekius and iyun skills.

Monsey Melave Malka
Thirty-two of our students, Rabbi Grossman, Rabbi Etziony (Doc's son-in-law), and Dr. Berman got together at Doc's house for a lichdig Erev Chanukah Melave Malka.

Dr. Berman opened the evening with stories of resistance to our oppressors both during World War II and in the time of the Chashmonaim. He ended by connecting these stories to what we say in Shacharit before Shirat Hayom "and You (Hashem) established with him (Avraham) a covenant to give US (the Jewish nation) the land."

Rabbi Etziony then told a story about the Beit Yosef. He carefully explained what "ameilus in Torah" means and the great potential available in each of us.

Rabbi Grossman, the Moreh D'Asrah of the TABC Monsey community, spoke about how important it is to form healthy habits at a young age. He quoted from Breishit Rabba on this week's Parsha. The sefer states how all of Yosef's brothers, along with Yaakov, were wearing sackcloth after Yosef was sold with the exception of Yehudah who was preparing to get married. Additionally, the sefer states how at that very moment Hashem was paving the way for Moshiach. Rabbi Grossman said that the difference between the brothers, and Hashem and Yehudah, was that Hashem and Yehudah were looking towards the future.

The evening was punctuated with rounds of zmirot and breaks for pizza, nosh, brownies, chips, sodas, and more.
Mesibat Chanukah with Rabbi Malitzky

Juniors and seniors in Y14 Gemara went to Rabbi Malitzky's home in Passaic for a Chanukah Mesibah on Monday afternoon.
With singing, divrei Torah and a delicious BBQ, the students had an amazing time.  After playing a fun game and eating more, students heard an inspiring speech from Dr. Aryeh Berlin, a school psychologist living in Passaic, and from Rabbi Malitzky.
College Guidance
Financing Your Son's College Education

The second part of the college admission process is all about the money. How can we pay for the high cost of college? Financial aid consists of grants, scholarships, work study programs and loans. These may be sponsored by the federal government, the state government (you must go to school in your state of residence) and the colleges themselves. Those who attend the December 14th program "Financing Your Son's College Education" will learn about the different aspects of the financial aid process. Featured speakers include Joe Robert, representing the New Jersey Higher Education Student Assistance Authority, and Robert Friedman, the Director of Student Finances at Yeshiva University. The College Guidance Department invites all parents of seniors and juniors to attend.
Tenth Grade Section Meetings
with College Guidance

Over the past two weeks the College Guidance Department met with each section of the tenth grade. During those meetings Dr. Garry Katz, the Director of College Guidance, began exploring with the boys what colleges are looking for in a student. The discussion included the importance of grades and courses, as well as standardized test scores. Other topics that were explored were the
role of extra-curricular activities and community service and how a student can distinguish himself as a college applicant. The College Guidance Department hopes that these discussions will help remove the mystery from the college guidance process. There will be a parent follow up meeting with all the guidance departments at TABC on Wednesday night, February 10th.
The Ideal Days "Off"
While TABC students technically did not have school this past Monday or Tuesday, each day over 50 talmidim came to school for Shacharit and to hear shiurim, one day from Rabbi Yoni Mandelstam and the next from Rabbi Daniel Fridman. Additionally, Rabbi Mandelstam's Y6 and Y4 classes came to school for davenning, shiurim and sports. On Monday, Y6 enjoyed the open gym while on Tuesday, Y4 chose to play football in Sagamore park. Students from these classes were invited to enjoy a Dougie's lunch after the sports, which was sponsored by Sammy Baron's family. Overall, this was an inspirational two days where students chose to take from their free time to be part of their Yeshiva and spend time with the rebbeim who teach them Torah daily.

Autographed Sneakers
Being Raffled for
Student Council
Tzvi Grossman, son of our beloved Rabbi Joel Grossman, donated autographed Blake Griffin sneakers to TABC.  The game worn sneakers (with each sneaker individually autographed) are valued between $1,000 and $1.700. Raffle tickets are being sold to our student body for the chance to win these sneakers.  The tickets are 1 for $10 or 3 for $20.  All of the money will go to benefit the TABC Student Council.  The deadline to buy raffle tickets is Monday, December 14th.  Please see Rabbi Grossman to buy your tickets.
