History Bowl Success
This past Sunday, TABC hosted the Bergen County's History Bowl Sunday competition. Over 100 students from 14 schools participated. Previously,TABC was the first yeshiva to take part in the special Sunday competition and was at the forefront of getting other yeshivot involved, four of whom attended this year.

Under the leadership of Dr. Garry Katz, TABC students, Yosef Kahan and Nathanael Vinar, came in first and second place in the JV History Bee, and now qualify for the Nationals. Aaron Fishkind, Jeremy Rosenblatt and Orrin Kigner qualified for the Varsity Nationals and both the JV and Varsity History Bowl teams qualified for the Nationals.
In each category TABC scored higher than all the other yeshivot in attendance.  For more exciting details, click here.  For more photos, click here.

TABC & NCSY Kollel Join Forces for Late Night Learning
As part of its mission to provide multiple opportunities for extra learning, TABC recently held an evening of Late Night Learning in conjunction with NCSY Kollel. The advisors from NCSY Kollel led chavrutot and gave words of mussar, while the TABC rabbeim gave shiurim. Everyone enjoyed Carlos and Gabby's and the sports activities. It was a wonderful opportunity for two Torah institutions to work together l'hagdil Torah u l'hadira. For more photos, click here.

Holocaust Studies Class Visits
Holocaust Museum
Mrs. Reichardt's 12th grade Holocaust Studies class visited the Holocaust Museum and Resource Center at Rockland Community College last week. The students had an opportunity to view a video presentation, collaborate in a group workshop about choices people had to make - whether to be a bystander or a rescuer - and examine various artifacts donated by survivors and others. The highlight of the afternoon was the time that students spent hearing from and interacting with a survivor, Sonia Goldstein, who truly inspired the boys. At TABC, the Holocaust Studies Program, run by Mrs. Cary Reichardt, makes every effort to have our students interact with survivors who wish to tell their stories in order that they are never forgotten. For more photos, click here.

TABC Juniors Step Back in Time
On Tuesday, the entire eleventh grade stepped back in time to the world of their ancestors as they visited and toured New York's Lower East Side. The immigrant experience in the United States in the late 19th and early 20th centuries is one of the topics which is covered during the first semester of 11th grade American History classes. The first stop was the Lower East Side Tenement Museum, where students were divided into four groups alternating between two separate tours, both of which recreated the immigrant experience on Orchard Street at the turn of the 20th century. Actually stepping into the restored tenements to see the conditions in which new immigrants worked and lived was quite an eye-opening experience for many of the students. Docents shared primary sources and artifacts with students as part of their tour and each group concluded with a discussion activity. Next stop was a tour of the magnificent Eldridge Street Synagogue. The students were briefed on the rich history of this landmark synagogue, built entirely by the Jewish immigrant population, and the role it played within the Lower East Side community at the time. Their "immigrant experience" concluded with students having the unique experience of davening mincha there. Many thanks to our chaperones - Ms. Hoenig, Dr. Master, Mrs. Moskovits and Mrs. Reichardt.

TABC Victorious Over Frisch
in Varsity Hockey
Saturday night  brought the highly anticipated contest between the TABC STORM and the Frisch Cougars Varsity Hockey teams. Fans from both sides filled in and by the time the face off dropped, it was standing room only. Both teams came out strong but it was Daniel Levy who wrapped it around and shoved the ball in the net to give the STORM the first lead of the game. After some more back and forth play and power plays for both teams, the period ended at 1-0. In the second period, Frisch was able to put the pressure on and tie the game at 1 with a shot by Bryan Alter. After drawing a penalty, TABC was able to capitalize on the power play as captain Shua Naor buried a shot on a pass from Daniel Levy to give the lead back to the STORM. TABC came out flying in the third period starting with the first shift when Naor scored his second goal of the game making the score 3-1. Shortly thereafter, Frisch defenseman Johnny Newman rifled a shot three quarters court to the back of the net as a Frisch player was coming out of the penalty box, however the goal was disallowed as the player was still offside when the shot was taken. TABC capitalized on the very next shift as it was captain Ari Fuchs who was able to bat a ball down in the middle and score to extend the lead to three. Right after the 6 minute mark it was 3 year varsity senior Sam Eisenstadter who scored his first goal of the season off the face off to put the game away with the score of 5-1. Frisch was able to put up another one late on a goal by Sammy Weitschner. Tremendous goal-tending by TABC senior Shua Beilin and TABC is now 5-0 and holds the top spot in the West.
TABC Represented at
Philadelphia Marathon
This past Sunday, TABC Track Captain, Avigdor Schiffman, and his father, Dr. Jonathan Schiffman ran in the Philadelphia Full Marathon. Showing his TABC pride, Avigdor ran wearing a STORM shirt and snow hat. Many runners dressed as superheroes during the race, all dressing in colorful, muscular, winged costumes, but there was one hero disguised as a caring father dressed in regular running clothes. Dealing with a painful knee injury, Avigdor was forced to slow to a walk in the 22nd mile, resulting in Dr. Schiffman abandoning his goal of running the full 26.2 in four hours so he could help Avigdor finish the race.  Together they covered the last few miles and when they reached the finish line they broke into a run crossing as a team!
