Special Minyanim

On Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, students are welcome to daven in the Beit Midrash with a slower paced tefillah. For more information, please speak to Yitzy Rothschild, Joseph Solomon, or Avi Cooper.

The Sephardic/Chabad Minyan has been expanded to include Tefilah on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays in Room 5.  Students have enjoyed the special energy of Sephardic Tefillah which includes Birkat Kohanim (duchenen)!  Chabad students also enjoy the Sephardic Tefillah which, similar to Chabad, is greatly influenced by the powerful and moving mystical ideas of the Ari z"l.  The selection from the classic Chabad work HaYom Yom is also studied after the Tefillah.

Seniors Spend the Day Doing Chesed

TABC seniors spent Tuesday engaged in Chesed activities in three different locations: Silver Lake Cemetery in Staten Island, MASBIA Soup Kitchen, and the JCC on the Palisades. An impromptu concert with the Alzheimer's group at the JCC was a very special part of the day!

Junior Class Visits Lower East Side
On Monday the entire Junior class headed for the Lower East Side of Manhattan to "re-live" American history as part of their studies on immigration. At the Tenement Museum, the students had the opportunity to experience and see what life was like for newly arrived immigrants at the turn of the twentieth century. As a special bonus, the students also visited the newly restored Eldridge Street Synagogue, the first synagogue established by Eastern European Jews in America. The students toured several tenement apartments with docents who described the personal stories behind the exhibits. This informative and exciting trip to the past concluded with a stop at the "Pickle Guys," for a real "taste" of life on the Lower East Side! Many thanks to all our chaperones- Mrs. Reichardt, Dr. Katz, Ms. Hoenig, Mrs. Moskovits, Mrs. Weisfogel, Mrs. Hirsch, Dr. Atlas and Mr. Ackerman. Thanks to Mrs. Reichardt, chair of the TABC history department, for coordinating this educational trip.
Math League Off to a Fine Start

The TABC Math League attained second place of 35 high schools in Bergen County in the first meet of the New Jersey Math League. The League was also commended for being a high scoring school in the state.  Students with a perfect score were: Gilad Felsen and Yehuda Koslowe. Students in second place were Avi Katz, Jonah Ganchrow and Daniel Zolty. Third place were Aaron Respler, Jacob Rosenberg, Buddy Wise, Eli Hyman, Orrin Kigner, and Hillel Koslowe. Congratulations to all who participated in this rigorous competition.

Siyum in Y4
Mazal Tov to Rabbi Grossman's Y4 Mishna class for making a Siyum on Maseket Ketubot. On Thursday November 13 the class had a pizza and soda party to celebrate the great milestone. The class immediately began Maseket Gittin.
Storm Varsity Hockey Wins Again
Tuesday night the varsity hockey team travelled to Manhattan to take on the Ramaz Rams for the second time this season. Other than the rubber floor, the only difference was that Rami Levine would get the start, his first of the young season. The game started out well for the Storm, as they applied constant pressure on Ramaz. Early in the first period, Yair Knoller fed Daniel Levy in the middle and Levy scored to put the Storm up 1-0. Later in the first, Calev Minsky continued the pressure and scored his first goal of the season to put the Storm up 2-0. The game stayed that way until the middle of the third period when Ramaz cut the lead to one. But Rami Levine and the entire TABC defense stayed strong and held Ramaz to only one goal in the game to give TABC the 2-1 victory. The Storm are now 2-0 in the season.
Film Club Debut
The TABC Film Club got off to an amazing start with its inaugural meeting this past Tuesday night. More than 17 students from all grades showed up to watch and discuss Steven Spielberg's adventure classic, Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark. The club is led by Amitai Glicksman ('15), Steven Cohen ('15) and Ovadia Esquenazi ('16) and will be meeting on a monthly basis.
Spotlight on Alumni
This past Motzaei Shabbat more than two dozen alumni gathered for our fourth Annual Alumni-Faculty Basketball Game. Graduates ranging from 1999 to 2013 came and enjoyed the great camaraderie and spirit (and fine basketball).  A special highlight was the visit of Ezra Gilbert '99, who was visiting on business from Israel, who conducted an impromptu Aliyah advisory session for computer science professionals.  Quite a number of more recent alumni eagerly sought out his advice.  Special thank you to Rabbi Adler, Bobby Kaplan, Dassi Silverman, Rabbis Friedman, Finkelstein, Kahn and Wiener for joining the crowd.  Thank you to Director of Alumni Relations, Rabbi Jachter, for organizing yet another wonderful alumni event.

The TABC Alumni Association held its first Lunch and Learn with alumni in midtown Manhattan at the offices of Yehuda Shmidman '99, CEO of Sequential Brands Inc.  Rabbi Adler captivated the audience of nearly twenty alumni with his analysis of the unique Bracha recited upon seeing Neirot Chanukah.  Alumni were thrilled to reconnect with old friends and Rebbeim.  Thank you to Rabbi Jachter and Sharon Rifkind for organizing this program.

Click here to read a d'var Torah by TABC alumnus, Ariel Reiner '13, which was published in Yeshivat Sha'alvim's newsletter. He credits many of the ideas he presents to his TABC Rebbe, Rabbi Jachter.

We are extremely proud of TABC Alumnus Chaim Kagedan '00 who recently appeared before the U.S. Supreme Court, arguing the Zivotofsky case involving a boy, born in Jerusalem, whose parents requested that the US State Department list his birthplace as Israel. Read the full story here.
