Improving your Image
GE Healthcare announces SenoClaire in time for Breast Cancer Awareness month
Like a jet flying farther without burning more fuel, or a computer chip crunching data faster in the same small space, mammography is making a similar technological leap when it comes to its latest advance in image clarity.
Edison Award Winner GE Healthcare announced today that it has received FDA approval for a new mammography solution, SenoClaire*, which helps clinicians see breast tissue in three-dimensions - but can do so without needing to increase the amount of X-rays used in standard 2D imaging. More

Happy Feet
2015 Edison Award Nominee miraclefeet is making big steps
There's more work to be done, but Chesca Colloredo-Mansfeld, MBA '92, anticipates a day when her organization, miraclefeet, will provide the remedy for tens of thousands of children with clubfoot throughout the developing world. At that point, she says, "I will be able to get hit by a bus and go down feeling really good."
The remedy, devised in the innovation hot spring of Stanford's d.school, is a plastic brace that's dramatically more affordable and child-friendly than the standard metal version. Its ultimate impact portends more than a medical solution: Fixing clubfoot may avert a life shaped by social rejection and long-term poverty. More

The Mission Continues connects veterans and communities
Edison Award Winner The Mission Continues puts veterans to work in volunteer "platoons" with "squad leaders" to tackle wide-ranging civic projects: mentoring children and refurbishing schools in Boston; tracking down homeless veterans in Phoenix who may want help; and building sustainable agricultural networks that supply fresher food to families in Washington, D.C.
In The Bronx, a new platoon is partnered with DreamYard, which pairs arts education with community projects. "These are long-term revitalization efforts in some of the most disadvantaged areas in New York City," says Kympton, who lives in Brooklyn with his wife and young son. "The veterans provide all the blocking and tackling." More
