Innovation Crosses All Avenues & Industries

It's relatively easy to keep up with the latest and greatest in the areas in which we ourselves work and play, but often we aren't aware that innovation is happening across so many other fields. Take the exciting new products & services below for example, each of which has achieved Finalist status in the 2013 Edison Awards competition. Featured in industries or applications that might not be as visible or "out front" as others, we thought you might find them quite interesting.

Construction:  Caterpillar's CAT 336 H Hybrid Excavator

Caterpillar unveils the Cat 336EH, its first hybrid excavator

Caterpillar's 336E H hybrid excavator achieves dramatic fuel efficiency improvement (up to 50% over previous models) with significantly lower sound and exhaust emissions. The industry-first hydraulic hybrid technology, which has more than 300 filed patents, captures and reuses swing kinetic energy to help lower customer owning and operating costs.

Aviation:  Synthetic Vision on a Head-Up Display by Rockwell Collins

Rockwell Collins Head-up Guidance (HGS) with Synthetic Vision

One of a pilot's most challenging tasks is flying an aircraft in low visibility, requiring rapid shifts from instrument panels to the limited view beyond their windshield. With synthetic vision on a head-up display, pilots' eyes-forward views are augmented by computer-generated terrain and data for safer navigation and reduced delays.

Advertising/Social Change:

CBS EcoMedia's WellnessAd and EducationAd

EcoMedia_EDISON-AWARDS_2012

The firm's WellnessAd and EducationAd products transform advertising into an agent for social change: a portion of the budget for every media buy placed through these programs is directed towards a critical, yet underfunded, health or education project in a local community. CBS EcoMedia's vision is to harness the power of advertising and channel it into tangible social change.
