David O'Brien to Present "Driving Employee Engagement" at HRMA - SHRM Event


David will be the featured speaker at the Human Resource Management Association of Western New England's monthly breakfast meeting on October 23, 2013. His presentation titled Driving Employee Engagement; A Leader's Guide to Maximizing Employee Capacity examines current research and best practice strategies for increasing employee engagement. The program also provides participants with the opportunity to objectively assess the current state of their organizations' engagement pulse. David O'Brien to Present "Building Employee Satisfaction & Engagement" Workshop


As part of David's ongoing partnership with the CT Association of Nonprofits, he will be delivering his very popular, Building Employee Satisfaction & Engagement workshop on Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at CT Nonprofit's office in Hartford. In this hands-on and highly interactive 3-hour workshop, participants will explore a variety of proven strategies for turning employee satisfaction and engagement into increased stakeholder value. The workshop also offers valuable insight into the critical role that leaders must play to ensure employee engagement.  The 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. workshop is open to the public but registration is required. David will deliver the keynote address titledLeading at the Speed of Change at Hartford Business Journal's 2013 Health Care Heroes Awards ceremony. Health Care Heroes Awards identifies outstanding leaders in the health care industry who are the epitome of a "hero." Whether they are doctors, nurses, specialists or managers, join us in recognizing those individuals who embody the word "hero" and prove their excellence in helping others. Bridging the Engagement Gap 

8 No-cost strategies for Increasing Employee Engagement 


Despite the efforts of many well intentioned leaders, the gap between engaged employees and disengaged employees continues to grow. Numerous studies have confirmed that regardless of industry, market sector or organizational size, the ratio of disengaged employees to engaged employees remains at nearly 3 to 1. While this number at first glance is quite unsettling, the good news is that not all of the disengaged employees are fully disenfranchised or disconnected. Some (or possibly many) are what are best described as ambivalent. These employees struggle to understand where they fit in the organization and perhaps even more importantly, what the future holds for them. To be sure, the struggle for engagement most often arises from a longing to be more than their job, to feel connected to and proud of the organization of which they are a part.

This universal desire represents the common ground shared by engaged and disengaged employees alike, and offers leaders the opportunity to reengage the ambivalent and maybe even the disengaged too. How do astute leaders who understand the relationship between engagement and results do this?
