Our Daily Bread Mission Opportunities

Many people in VBC have generously given their time and resources to the Our Daily Bread (ODB) Program. ODB is a volunteer based organization that helps low income people in Fairfax County through food assistance, limited financial assistance, financial literacy programs, Back to School supplies, and adopting a family during the holidays. While many at VBC have supported several of these programs, VBC mainly participates by delivering several bags of food to our neighbors three Sundays a year. Our delivery dates for this calendar year are July 20, August 3, and September 14.  You also help through your church offerings, which provide the money to buy specialty items such as diapers, baby wipes, nutritional support for seniors or diabetics, and household items. Many volunteers are needed on delivery Sundays to fill the grocery bags with the food and take names from the bulletin board and deliver the food to the families after church. This food is vital to the recipients: the working poor, elderly, and disabled.  Thank you for all of your support of the Our Daily Bread mission over the years.  Please continue your support as we begin our summer deliveries.  May you be blessed as you bless your neighbors. If you have any questions, please contact Debbie Dorcus, Emily Miller, or Susan Hall.

Supporting the Lamb Center

Thank you to all who donated a wide range of items for our June Mission emphasis, the Lamb Center!  It was a fantastic, rewarding experience to deliver more than 40 bags containing everything from oatmeal to socks to toothpaste and hygiene items. When I arrived, I was afforded the opportunity to see the Center in full swing! It was a Monday morning, and the place was hopping with serving food, setting up appointments, handing out metro cards, and offering a place to shower and change. The patrons lined up quickly when asked to help me unload the car and the thanks I received from them was overwhelming. The Missions Committee continues to take pride in what our congregation can gather to do!

Sharing our Faith Without Fear

On August 23, Living Faith Lutheran Church in Rockville will host a special workshop on telling your faith story. This workshop will highlight a number of ways to encourage parish members to tell their faith stories in a non-threatening way.Using faith stories, we will understand our own journey better, facilitate talking with others about our faith, and build ministry in the congregation, the community and the world. Our presenters are the Rev. Michelle Doran and the Rev. Marjie Mack, members of the Horizons Task Force of the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland which has developed our workshop's resources and methods. See the attached flyer for more information.
