MESSAGE FROM RICK

Richard P. Aulenbach, P.E.
Every four years when the Summer Olympics come around, I become captivated not only by the sheer athleticism of each athlete, but also the amazing stories about their personal journeys. This year I was particularly moved by the swimmer, Missy Franklin.

At just 17 years of age and going into her senior year of high school, Missy is already armed with strong core values that will take her far.   She has refused numerous endorsement and sponsorship deals to remain in Aurora Colorado and continue to  train with the same coach she had since she was seven.  This enabled her to be with her family and friends, and resulted in four gold medals.

For an adult these would be pretty important life decisions, and yet they seem to have come so easily to this teenager because she is armed with solid core values.

When I thought about the values guiding Missy Franklin's life, it reminded me about the values that guide RPA Engineering. Our core values of INTEGRITY, INNOVATION, QUALITY AND FUN, are touchstones which our team believes are important as we work with each other and our clients. Sometimes we can take them for granted, but it's important to remind ourselves frequently that when we live every day with our values forefront in our minds, we will achieve our gold medal objectives.

Thank you Missy Franklin and all our Olympic athletes for reminding all of us how important that is.

RPA LAUNCHES INITIATIVE TO EXPAND COMMISSIONING AND QUALIFICATION SERVICES

In response to an industry-wide trend toward performance-based design and construction, RPA has launched a major initiative to expand its commissioning and qualification (C&Q) services.  C&Q services are tools used by companies to ensure project success and regulatory compliance during the building design and construction phase.

RPA PROMOTES JON BECKER TO PROJECT MANAGER

RPA has promoted Jon Becker from project engineer to project manager with the company's Energy Services Division.  In his new position, he will manage multi-discipline engineering design teams serving the power utilities sector.

Becker joined RPA as an intern in 2005 and began working fulltime in May 2008 as a project engineer in the power utilities sector of the Energy Services Division.  He earned RPA's Presidential Award for outstanding performance in 2011 and RPA's Client Services award in 2012.

Becker holds a bachelor of science degree in civil and construction engineering from Temple University.  He is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the Project Management Institute.
PROJECT HIGHLIGHT: THE READING HOSPITAL AND MEDICAL CENTER, EPIC TRAINING CENTER

RPA participated in a design build project working with Watkins Architects and Perrotto Builders (GC) in a fit out of 60,000 square feet on two separate floors at the Designer Building within the VF Outlet Campus.  The fit out will establish 32 training rooms, four new offices, several lounge areas, two IT hub rooms, two ADA restrooms, and a refresh of existing restrooms.  RPA's scope included a full MEP design package which was accomplished in two weeks upon receipt of architectural backgrounds.  The renovated space will provide a temporary training center for TRHMC.  The target move-in date is early October 2012.
