CCEC Expands to Redmond with Eastside Partnership
Course schedule out Feb. 25

Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech) has joined a partnership with Cascadia College and Everett Community College (EvCC) to provide corporate continuing education programs through EvCC's Corporate and Continuing Education Center (CCEC) to LWTech's service area which includes Kirkland, Bellevue, Issaquah, Redmond, Woodinville and Bothell.

Cascadia College and EvCC have partnered to offer continuing education course since 2012. An open house is scheduled at the LWTech Redmond campus on 5:30 - 7:30pm on March 22.

"We are so pleased to join this collaborative partnership that allows us to expand, accelerate and strengthen our continuing education programs to better meet the needs of professionals in the eastside community," said Dr. Amy Morrison Goings, president of LWTech. "By having one point of contact, companies will experience a streamlined approach to continuing education."

Over 70 courses will be offered this spring through the new CCEC-Eastside partnership with topics in aerospace and manufacturing, computers and information technology, business and professional development, and personal interest.

Why Customized Training Works
by Matt Washburn

Matt Washburn is Training Manager at Senior Aerospace AMT in Arlington, Washington, and has nearly 20 years of experience working as an aerospace machinist.

Senior Aerospace AMT has been offering customized training to our employees since 2012. We decided on customized training because we wanted to invest in our employees by providing a way for them to gain additional skills related to the work they perform.

The classes that we offered at AMT have been a big hit and our employees have enjoyed the individual instructors for each class. An added benefit is that our employees feel valued that AMT is investing in their skillset and their future. Many employees share with me how they can now do their job with more skill and efficiency with what they've learned through the training classes. These skills make our employees more valuable and therefore increases their earning potential.

I was able to work collaboratively with Ray Kubista and Lisa Jameson at CCEC to develop Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing and Microsoft Excel classes tailored to the needs of our company and our employees. Ray, Lisa, and the CCEC team were knowledgeable and friendly during the planning process, helping to answer my questions about Washington State Job Skills Program (JSP) and Customized Training funding. They helped us secure a JSP grant, assisting every step of the way to make the process simple. Because of the success we've continued to have, AMT plans to apply for another JSP grant this year and to add even more classes to the schedule to promote future growth and opportunity in our company.

What AMT employees are saying about their training ...

"The most valuable part to me was the hands-on learning."

"I liked the group discussions with other AMT employees."

"I appreciated the shop-related examples."
AMTEC & WSU to Present at PNAA

Project-based training is necessary in the future of manufacturing education. Everett Community College and Washington State University are finding ways to work together to get students the hands-on training that they need. From stackable certificates to advanced degrees, and into jobs, EvCC and WSU are opening up more pathways for the students of today and tomorrow. Bryan Johnson of EvCC's Advanced Manufacturing Training & Education Center and Alex Pietsch, Associate Vice President for Corporate Relations at Washington State University will be presenting about "Hands-on Learning for the Next Generation of Aerospace Manufacturers" at the annual Pacific Northwest Aerospace Alliance conference on Tuesday.
