Dear Spiritual Partner,
What is the meaning of Christmas for you - the richest, most fulfilling things about it that make it special and memorable? For me, it is the energy of the Christ. Why does the energy of the Christ, as I experience it, lift me and inspire me? What kind of person was this? How did people experience this person? He loved others. He gave of himself. He was not influenced by social status. Prostitutes, fishermen, and tax collectors were in his circle. He was not influenced by wealth. Attachment to it, He said, prevents people from loving. He did many things that dazzled such as walking on water, making a little food into a lot of food, transformed water into wine, and returned to life again after dying. Perhaps these last things really happened, or perhaps they are symbolic of the power of his open and unfathomable heart. Either way, the Christ told everyone who would listen, You can do everything that I can do and more. I think about that sentence more than any other in the bible. Could we really do what the Christ did? Could I really do these things? Either we believe this bold statement or we do not. Either I really believe this bold statement or I do not. I believe it. Perhaps this makes me a Christian. The Christ spoke to humans who were limited to the perceptions of the five senses about things that the five senses cannot reveal. They are real He told them. Now we are becoming multisensory - able to see beyond the limitations of our five senses. Millions of us are beginning to experience another "kingdom", a realm of Light, Love, Consciousness, and Life that existed before we were born and will continue to exist after we die and give it a modern name - nonphysical reality. We are inspired to bring the harmony and balance of that kingdom into our lives - to create "heaven on Earth." All this is what Christmas means to me. What does it mean to you?

MESSAGE FROM GARY
CONSCIOUS CHRISTMAS OR UNCONSCIOUS CHRISTMAS?
What would a conscious Christmas look like? It would look like the Christ - loving others, caring about others without second agendas, no attempt to impress, patient, and caring. It would not be limited to a day, evening, or night. It would not be a special event. It would be a life-long endeavor, focusing the power of goodness, compassion, and Divinity onto to every interaction and experience. It would be willful, not mindlessly habitual. It would demand commitment and an elevated perception. It would be the experiences of love, wisdom, and compassion brought into the matter of your life.
Who would benefit from a conscious Christmas? Everyone. It would cleanse the road film of sentimentality from our experiences, wipe clean the lens of our expanded perception, replace every distortion of anger, jealousy, resentment, superiority and inferiority with clarity, and free us from fear. Even if you don't celebrate Christmas, recognizing the differences between a conscious Christmas and a commercial Christmas will help you recognize the differences between a conscious life and an unconscious life.
A Conscious Christmas is:
An Unconscious Christmas is:
Quality time with family and friends
Impatience, overwhelm and stress
Aware and healthy interactions
Habitual and unexamined interactions
Compassion for others and yourself
Judging others and yourself
Seeing from an impersonal perspective
Taking things personally
Cultivating love at every chance
Indulging fear (impatience, anger, etc.) at every chance
Being kind (no second agendas)
Giving so others will like you
True and deep connections
Sentimental interactions
Acting and speaking with integrity
Letting things slide because its the holidays
Caregiving
Caretaking
Conscious use of money
Shopping out of obligation or need to please
Healthy, conscious eating
Eating and drinking to cover pain
Open heartedness
Evaluating, assessing, judging others
In short, a conscious Christmas is filled with experiences of love and an unconscious Christmas is filled with experiences of fear. Only an empowered heart creating without attachment to the outcome can live a conscious Christmas, and only a heart clouded by lack of self-worth and searching for value outside of itself can experience an unconscious Christmas.
This mirrors the creation of authentic power - the alignment of the personality with the soul - and the pursuit of external power - ability to manipulate and control. Every deed, word, and gift at Christmas can express the creation of authentic power or the pursuit of external power. The intention that you hold as you act and speak makes the difference.
May your Christmas this year - and all your times - be heart-filled, joyful, and fulfilling. Love,

NOTE FROM LINDA
ACTING WITH INTEGRITY INSTEAD OF LETTING THINGS SLIDE BECAUSE ITS CHRISTMAS
Gary and I lived in a small mountain town during the first eight years of our spiritual partnership. I learned many things about myself during those years. One of them was that even people who consider themselves to be spiritual cannot discern when they are being controlled by fear-based parts their personalities until they have the ability to know whether their intentions are coming from love or from fear. I remember one Christmas eve we were with the spiritual people in our chosen extended family at a lovely potluck dinner. The musicians among us were playing beautiful music and we were all singing together and enjoying ourselves. Gary and I noticed something that no one was talking about, and we realized that we had observed it previously. The things that were most important for us to talk about - and often obvious to all of us - were pushed under the rug, for example, someone acting without integrity in relationship to money. We both felt this would be a good time - a Christmas gathering - to talk about some of these things from an impersonal (multi-sensory) and loving perspective rather than the fear-based personal perspectives of parts of our personalities that judge and create separation. However, when Gary began to speak about one of the things that everyone at the gathering already knew but would not talk about, most of the people there reacted. Some objected to bringing attention to these things, especially at Christmas. One fled to a loft for the remainder of the evening. All except one wanted Gary to stop talking. He said, "This is the first time we have been real!" This was my first experience of my extended chosen family reacting, and I realized with a jolt that we were usually in unspoken agreement not to speak about the very things that we most needed to speak about in order to share love and create harmony instead of the pretend love and harmony that happened when we refused to experience, much less talk about, frightened parts of our personalities that silently judge and become distant instead of acknowledging and discussing emotionally difficult things. This was a painful experience for me, but it showed me how much courage it takes to create authentic power, to create with loving parts of my personality when frightened parts of my personality are active. Remembering that Christmas evening has helped me many times since when I knew my intention was loving and that I needed to act with integrity no matter what reactions that might cause. That special evening showed me what a conscious Christmas feels like and how different it is from an unconscious Christmas. I wish you many loving and conscious Christmases.
With Love,
