"Brighton is a benchmark for young adult programs. We are confident that our son will learn the life skills, social skills and practical real world skills to live independently and successfully." Michelle (parent of 15 year old)
Brighton's Secondary Programs are designed to address the needs of students who have difficulties meeting the academic and social demands of a typical high school environment. Credit courses are offered at a slower pace with more individualized support. We offer courses at the LDC and Open level, as well as Workplace course credits.
Our innovative and one-of-a-kind Transition to Adulthood Program can start as early as grade 9 and continues into post-secondary adulthood. Now going into our 3rd year, we prepare students and young adults for a gradual transition to the workplace and independent living, using a comprehensive and custom-designed curriculum (TASC: Transition to Adulthood Skills Curriculum).
Our programs have amazing features, such as the ability to mix credit and alternative non-credit courses, a Work Experience program starting in grade 9 with employers such as Toyota on the Park, Winners, HMV, Loblaws, Glow Restaurants, North Beach Volleyball, Toys R Us and more.
Transit Training, Workplace certifications, Social Activity groups and Recreation and Leisure programs are also integral components to this Secondary program.
Our unique Income, Expenses and Budgeting program teaches young adults money management and personal banking as part of the Numeracy and Numbers course.
"My son has learned so many new and practical skills in the program. He really looks forward to his work placement and takes great pride in tackling new jobs. We're thrilled to see him so happy." Joyce (parent of 20 year old)
