Take a Stand on Gout
Go For 6
Gout & Uric Acid Education Society
March 2016 Newsletter

The Gout & Uric Acid Education Society (GUAES) is committed to raising public awareness about gout and arming patients, like you, with resources to help you better understand gout diagnosis and treatment.

March is National Kidney Month. Today, more than
26 million Americans are living with kidney disease. Those who have gout are at greater risk for the disease. Additionally, one in five people with gout will develop kidney stones.  Likewise, those who have kidney disease are more likely to suffer from gout and elevated uric acid levels.

Maintaining a healthy serum uric acid level of 6 mg/dL or below is important to reduce risk for gout and kidney disease. Ask your doctor for a routine serum uric acid blood test to determine your levels. Your doctor can also run tests to measure your kidney function. Exercising regularly and drinking plenty of water to flush the kidneys can also help reduce risk. Visit GoutEducation.org to learn about other steps you can take to reduce your risk for gout and kidney disease.

Share Your Gout Story

CreateHealth is looking to speak with female patients based in the United States to learn more about their management and treatment of the disease.

CreateHealth helps health care providers understand how to better support the needs of patients - including those living with gout. Previous projects have led to changes in educational materials people receive, as well as to an increase in support for patient care.

If you would like to share your story, CreateHealth would like to hear from you. Patients are not required to prepare, or have any special knowledge to contribute.
