The Gout & Uric Acid Education Society (GUAES) is committed to raising public awareness about gout and arming patients, like you, with resources to help you better understand gout diagnosis and treatment.
To avoid gout flares and to take advantage of the remaining summer days, be sure to exercise regularly and stay hydrated. Adults should engage in moderate-intensity physical activities for at least 30 minutes most days of the week. Moderate activity includes activities such as walking briskly or swimming laps, mowing the lawn, dancing or bicycling on level ground.
As you are physically active, it is important to stay hydrated. Water helps the body transport nutrients and waste, regulates body temperature and cushions joints and tissues. It is believed that drinking water can also help remove uric acid from the bloodstream. Make sure to consume at least 64 ounces of water daily, and more if you are increasing the intensity of your exercise.

Future Gout Attacks
Earlier in August, many people celebrated International Beer Day. But did you know that regular, excessive intake of beer can trigger a gout flare? Consumption of alcoholic beverages - especially beer - has been linked to gout flares. While people who don't drink beer can still get gout, studies have shown that those who do drink beer are more likely to suffer from flares.
