2013 Audits are past due
Audits for the year 2013 were due to be submitted by September 1, 2014. All churches are required to use the diocesan Audit Guidelines which are available at dioceseofnewark.org/audits.

Congregational pledges for 2015 due December 1
Congregational pledges to the diocese for the year 2015 are due December 1. Each church will be sent a form in the near future, asking for them to submit an estimate of their 2015 Normal Operating Income (NOI), their percentage pledge for 2015, and the resulting dollar pledge amount. Since the pledge cards are to be approved and signed by the Vestry, plans should be made to review the pledge in November.

News from The Episcopal Church
Announcement from the Presiding Bishop

The Most Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori The Most Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori has announced she will not stand for re-election as Presiding Bishop of The Episcopal Church:

"I have spent many months in discernment about how I am being called to serve God's people and God's creation in this season.... I do not at present believe I should serve and lead in this ministry for another nine years.

"I will continue in discernment about the ministry I may be called to in the coming years, but my present focus is and will remain on being the vigorous and faithful leader I believe I am called to be. God has called us all to be instruments of shalom, and we have miles to go before we live in that world of justice and peace."

The House of Bishops concludes its Fall 2014 meeting in Taiwan
The House of Bishops of The Episcopal Church met in the Diocese of Taiwan from September 17 to September 23. The theme for the meeting was Expanding the Apostolic Imagination. Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori and other key leaders of the House of Bishops have issued statements upon the conclusion of the meeting.

Bishop Dean E. Wolfe of Kansas, vice president of HOB and co-chair of the HOB Planning Committee, said in part:

"All of us who have congregants from Asia have gained a deeper understanding of the context from which our brothers and sisters have come and a greater appreciation for the Christian witness along the Pacific Rim. We traveled a very long way and at no small expense to come to Taiwan to reinforce a principal which is dear to us; that every diocese is an essential member of our family of faith and no diocese is too small or too far away. We are present here as an outward and visible sign of our commitment to our brothers and sisters in Asia and we have been richly blessed by our time together during this meeting in Taiwan."

Bishop Mark Beckwith attended the House of Bishops meeting and wrote about it on his blog. He and his wife Marilyn Olson will now travel to Japan, where he lived for two years after graduating from college.
