Dear

Tune into the City Council meeting Tuesday March 25 at 7:00 p.m. to find the answer to these questions:
Do the Planning Department's processes result in efficient,  timely , and equitable issuance of building permits and accurate charging and proper deposit of fees? Are the procedures over cash handling ensuring accuracy of collections and deposits? Have previous audit recommendations been addressed?

We will present our performance audit  "Construction Permits - Monitor Performance and Fee Assessments to Ensure Excellent and Equitable Customer Service" as item 27 on the Council Action Calendar.

Earlier Tuesday evening, at 5:30 on Tuesday, tune in for a Council work session on crime.

Other performance audits in progress:

Is Berkeley meeting its goal of getting to  Zero Waste by 2020?  Our current audit of Zero Waste will use  performance feedback from the City's Zero Waste Division and 311 system  to make recommendations about performance measurement and management of progress towards  the Zero Waste goals. We expect to issue this audit in June.

Are procedures over cash handling ensuring accuracy of collections and deposits?  See our report on cash handling on April 1.

Audits of Police Department injuries and Animal Services overtime are currently in progress.

We appreciate your continued support for our work to help Berkeley deliver services in a more efficient, effective, and equitable way.  Please contact me at auditor@cityofberkeley.info (or at 981-6750) with your questions, comments, and ideas.  I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,
Ann-Marie Hogan, City Auditor
