Immigration and Lent

The town hall meeting did not go well for Senator John McCain. Reporters described the Sun Lakes, Arizona, event as "rough and raucous," the interchanges "hot and heavy." Actually, it was more like a mini-crucifixion.

The subject: immigration reform.

As the crowd pressed the Senator, one person argued that, while he hated to say it, gunning down illegals was the only effective way to stop the border crossings. Another complained that every form of governmental benefit should be cut off immediately for non-citizens. A third demanded that undocumented workers never attain citizenship.

Wisconsin Conference Annual Meeting

Something to Celebrate
June 7-9, 2013

Green Lake Conference Center

What makes worship vital? How is worship leadership evolving for faithfulness in the 21st century? And as a vehicle of theology, beauty and spiritual formation, how does music play a role?

These are questions we'll be exploring at this year's Annual Meeting.

Speaking to any worship style that rings true for your context, our musical-theological friends from SHIFT go beyond labels of "traditional" and "contemporary" to lead us on a path to worship renewal.

Through music and discussion, SHIFT's vibrant style will invite us into some timely and intense questions: What makes worship vital, and why does it "flatline" sometimes? Where is God leading us in our worship life? How can we get more intentional about worship?

You will leave this year's Annual Meeting with renewed energy, and discussion starters to take back to your congregation to begin exploring how you can get more soulful and intentional about your community's worship life.

Timely and relevant, you won't want to miss this!

The SHIFT quad includes Bryan Sirchio, Christopher Grundy, Andra Moran and Richard Bruxvoort Colligan. Though each of them serves the wider church as musicians, teachers and worship leaders, their work together is to curate the Progressive Christian Artists Network (PCAN) community online and in events across the country.

United for Marriage

On March 26 and 27, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear arguments in two cases that challenge laws limiting our freedom to marry: Proposition 8 (the California law overturning a state court decision allowing same-sex marriages) and DOMA (the federal Defense of Marriage Act). Open and Affirming churches will have an opportunity on those days to stand with the LGBT community in our struggle for equal dignity and freedom.
