Featured Feline: Davis
Davis transferred into our care in late December. This chatty fellow is very mellow! Davis loves to love, no matter if you are carrying him around in your arms or snuggling together in your favorite comfy chair. (Nothing sounds sweeter than this big guy's purr!) Davis is extremely adaptable, outgoing, and curious. Kids? No problem! He would get along well in just about any household, as long as there's plenty of time for love. Davis enjoys his food and cozy blankies... and, well, he's just about the perfect cat! Come on in and him! You won't be able to resist his charm! |
Compatible Canine: Buford
Buford transferred into our care in mid-December. This friendly guy loves to run around and play with toys. (He also thinks he's the perfect size to be a lap dog-- even though you may think otherwise!) Buford is a very active fellow with a lot of energy, so be prepared to help him burn some of that off with regular walks, games of tug, and other activities. He's a social butterfly who would do best in a home with kids over the age of 15. He's a little too interested in cats, so we think he would do best in a home without kitties. In general, he does well with other dogs, but there are a few he might give the stink eye to. Overall, he's a big ol' sweetie pie. Come meet him today! |

I had the privilege of meeting Alisabeth Von Presley while we were in the early stages of planning this year's Whine & Wags Auction.
What an incredibly talented young woman!
In addition to her American Idol claim to fame, Alisabeth is known for her spectacular local performances. I'm thrilled that she has graciously agreed to perform at this year's gala event.
Whine & Wags is sure to be a very fun affair! Please join us on February 28 at the Cedar Rapids Country Club for a very special evening of entertainment and bidding on a variety of silent auction items, followed by an exciting live auction.
And remember... it's all for the animals!
See you there-

We Asked, You Answered!
Did you choose your pet(s) or did your pet(s) choose you? How did it happen?
Barb Trujillo: Our cat Molly (known as Ebony at CVHS) made a beeline to my husband when we walked into the cat room. She was a long-timer at the shelter, and we were wondering if she would like us. She started rubbing his legs and meowing and purring. I looked at her and said, "Wow, you know how to work him." The decision was made. After those many years, she still loves Larry best. She picked us, and we are very grateful to this day for our lovely girl.
Patty Soukup: Spot the cat found me when he was just barely three months old. He climbed the tree, walked across the front porch roof, and meowed in my bedroom window. When I opened the front door, he came down.
Dave Cork: We chose each other. Fifteen years ago this month, I went to CVHS looking for a dog. Duchess was a puppy... the runt of the litter, and unnamed at that point. I saw her and was instantly smitten. When I first held her, she shook like a leaf, licked my face, wagged her tail and peed on my shirt. I was sold. She hadn't yet been spayed because of her age, but a week later I picked her up and took her home. After fifteen years, she's almost deaf and has mild arthritis, but is otherwise an incredibly healthy and happy dog. Best dog I've ever had.
Michelle Miers McIllece: We got our dog Dudley (then Muncie) at CVHS. We first met him at a Halloween event at Theisen's, where he jumped all over us and barely made it across the stage, he was so naughty and unkempt! I don't know what we were thinking, but we definitely chose him.
Cindy Nutt: Sadie was chosen by our other dog, Goldi. We had taken Goldi to see Santa and have a picture taken. Goldi saw Sadie, sniffed Sadie, kissed Sadie, and the rest is history. Sadie was really fearful when we got her, even afraid of coming in the house, and would hide under our deck outside, but today she has definitely come into her own and allows us to live in her house!

Volunteer Spotlight: Gidget and Katie Hagmeier
Gidget Hagmeier and her daughter, Katie, have been volunteering with us since 2013. They have helped with many events, including the monthly and national PetSmart adoption events; Barnes & Noble gift wrapping; pet therapy; the St. Patrick's Day parade; and the chili supper fundraiser. The list goes on and on!
Their positive attitudes and willingness to go above and beyond is truly inspiring. For example, at this year's Barnes & Noble gift wrapping event, they hand crafted adorable decorations to put on the packages to add a little more holiday spirit to the experience.
Gidget and Katie, thank you for being such wonderful volunteers! We truly enjoy working with you and hope you continue to light up our community events with your fun personalities! |
Happy Tail: Lady (now Cleo) Has it All Figured Out
Thank you for taking wonderful care of Lady (now Cleo) while she was in your care.
We are absolutely in love with her, and she has settled in quite nicely. She's sleeping soundly with our daughter at night. It took her a couple of days to figure out our stairs, but now she's a pro! She's also figured out that the train we can hear several times a day is nothing to worry about and not a reason to lie down on the sidewalk during a walk!
Thank you to your staff for the assistance in our quest to find the right fit for our kids and other dogs. It was obvious you cared about all involved. I can't say enough great things about our experience.
Thanks again,
Kristie G.
Remember, YOU can send us your Happy Tail, too!
