Featured Feline:
Skye

Skye was found with her companion Eartha in a cardboard box abandoned by the roadside. She is a very shy girl who loves to cuddle with other kitties. We think she would do best in a quiet home. Go slow to earn her trust, and she will reveal her true, sweet personality. If the beautiful Skye sounds like your girl, come meet her at PetSmart!
Compatible Canine:
Sadie

Add a description
Sadie came into our care as a stray in mid-December. She is a lively dog who loves affection. Sadie enjoys exploring and would make a great walking buddy! This little girl is very calm with food and toys, and we think she will make a great family dog. Stop in and meet Sadie to see if she's the dog you've been looking for.

Happy New Year!

The new year is always an exciting time. It's a time to welcome change and positive energy into our lives.

At the Cedar Valley Humane Society, we're excited about the many prospects 2015 brings: new opportunities to partner with other animal welfare organizations; to strengthen connections within our communities; and, of course, to give each animal who comes through our doors a fresh, new start in life.

We invite you to journey with us through this exciting year in whatever way is meaningful to you. Become a volunteer. Donate monthly. Join us on Facebook.

However you choose to, resolve to become involved!

Lonnie Viner

Executive Director

P.S. Kick off the new year right! Please take a moment to donate now!

Warm Up at our Chili Supper

Come enjoy a delicious meal of chili, soup, and salad, plus an array of breads and desserts at our third annual Chili Supper on Saturday, January 10!

We'll be serving it up between 5 and 8:30pm at the Lowe Park Arts & Environment Center, 4500 N. 10th Street in Marion. Adult tickets are $10. Seniors are $8, and kids 10 and under are only $5.

This year, we will have live entertainment by Sarah Angelo-Haight, who sings and plays the ukulele! The show runs from 6 to 7:30pm.

All proceeds benefit the Cedar Valley Humane Society.

Chili's Donates 15% of Your Purchase

Eat at Chili's Restaurant, 1250 Collins Rd. NE, Cedar Rapids, between December 1, 2014, and February 1, 2015, and 15% of your bill will be donated to the Cedar Valley Humane Society!

Pick up a hard-copy voucher at the shelter, or just show your server the voucher on your cell phone or other mobile device.

For your convenience, the voucher is posted in several places: in this article, on www.cvhumane.org and on our Facebook page.

Feel free to share the voucher with everyone you know. The more people who use the voucher, the more money Chili's will donate to help our shelter animals!

We Asked, You Answered!

We asked icon
Do you have a New Year's resolution for your pet?

Nicki Coleman Finger: Same resolution as mine, gain no more weight! Together, kitty, we can do this!

Kayla Carol Kensett: To not fight bath time??? Yeah, right!

Debbie Marlin Leonard: I have a Aussie. She needs some behavioral training. Badly.... This is the year.

Rita Fuller: To keep them healthy and happy.

"Like" us on Facebook. You can find our page by searching "Cedar Valley Humane Society." Then stay tuned to see your responses in our E-news!

Volunteer Spotlight: Kevin Booth

hand and pawKevin Booth has only been volunteering for us since November, but he's already put in almost 20 hours!

Kevin cleans dog kennels in the mornings and walks dogs in the afternoons. He has even helped us transport dogs to our shelter.

Kevin, the staff enjoys working with you and appreciates your hard work. From all of us, thank you for all that you have done for our animals in such a short amount of time!

Happy Tail: Happy Holidays from Priscilla and Bentley

We've had Priscilla and Bentley (formerly Ping and Big Boy) for a little over a year.

They are really good cats who love to explore in the backyard, get into things they shouldn't and cuddle together whenever they get the chance.

Thanks and have a great holiday season!

Dave and Sheri J.

Remember, YOU can
send us your Happy Tail, too!

Notable Quote

The nature of the universe probably depends heavily on who is the actual protagonist. Lately I've been suspecting it's one of my cats.
