Featured Feline:
Joy

In late November, we found Joy on our doorstep tucked into a crate with her companion, Noel. This big girl is a total diva! She likes lolling about in comfy beds, and she won't come to you for attention-- she wants you to bring it to her! (Make no mistake, though, she loves getting loving!) Joy can see things you can't, and she'll pounce on them! Repeatedly. (Hey, just because they're invisible doesn't mean they're not there!) Her long gorgeous locks will need regular brushing to keep them looking their diva-best. Come meet this funny, sweet girl today!
Compatible Canine:
Ruby

Ruby came into our care as a stray in mid-December. This big girl loves attention and thinks she's a lap dog! She loves her toys and is eager to please you with her knowledge of commands, such as sit, shake, and drop it. Ruby would be a great family dog, particularly for an active family that could help her burn off her extra energy. She is still very puppy-like and could benefit from some basic obedience training. Come on in and meet this lover girl!

Happy holidays!

The holidays are a time to celebrate and share with loved ones. Whether we have husbands or wives, children or grandchildren, cats or dogs, all of the above or none of them, it's about spending time with family members and dear friends.

At the Cedar Valley Humane Society, we are fortunate to have a wonderful, caring group of people who feel like family. And then, of course, there are our dear furry friends who only stay a short time with us before they join families of their very own-- which is what it's all about!

We love knowing that animals we have cared for now belong to other families... families that will give them the love they need and deserve for the rest of their lives. Whether you have adopted a new family member from us, or supported us in other ways, we offer our heartfelt thanks.

Celebrating the joy of family,

Lonnie Viner

Executive Director

P.S. If you haven't yet made a year-end contribution, there's no time like the present! Please take a moment to donate now!

Warm Up at our Chili Supper

Come enjoy a delicious meal of chili, soup, and salad, plus an array of breads and desserts at our third annual Chili Supper on Saturday, January 10!

We'll be serving it up between 5 and 8:30pm at the Lowe Park Arts & Environment Center, 4500 N. 10th Street in Marion. Adult tickets are $10. Seniors are $8, and kids 10 and under are only $5.

This year, we will have live entertainment by Sarah Angelo-Haight, who sings and plays the ukulele! The show runs from 6 to 7:30pm.

All proceeds benefit the Cedar Valley Humane Society.

Calling All Gazette Subscribers

If you're a Gazette subscriber, you can help us get free advertising!

Earlier this month, you should have received a red envelope in the mail. Inside, you'll find a Gazette Gives Back voucher that you can redeem online. When you redeem the voucher by voting for the Cedar Valley Humane Society, we receive thousands of dollars in free advertising from the Gazette. (It depends on how many people vote for our organization when they redeem the voucher!)

The opportunity to designate your dollars ends December 31, but don't wait! Redeem your Gazette Gives Back voucher today!

Think Local. Drink Local. Support Local.

Our friends at 7G Distributing want you to enjoy a local brew while helping the animals this month!

Through January 1, 2015, when you purchase products from Millstream Brewing Co., Great River Brewery, or Backpocket Brewing, 7G Distributing will donate a portion of the proceeds to help our shelter animals.

You can pick up a six-pack (or case!) at your local grocery store or convenience store, or stop in at a local bar or restaurant and have a cold draft!

It's an easy way for the 21-and-older crowd to support the local breweries and help support our work with homeless animals at the same time!

Chili's Donates 15% of Your Purchase

Eat at Chili's Restaurant, 1250 Collins Rd. NE, Cedar Rapids, between December 1, 2014, and February 1, 2015, and 15% of your bill will be donated to the Cedar Valley Humane Society!

Pick up a hard-copy voucher at the shelter, or just show your server the voucher on your cell phone or other mobile device.

For your convenience, the voucher is posted in several places: in this article, on www.cvhumane.org and on our Facebook page.

Feel free to share the voucher with everyone you know. The more people who use the voucher, the more money Chili's will donate to help our shelter animals!

We Asked, You Answered!

We asked icon
Do your pets have stockings hung by the chimney? What kinds of gifts do they get during the holidays?

Elisabeth Klug Kissling: We do. Stockings are hung for both our dog and our betta fish. Santa is baffled as to what fish want for Christmas.

Danielle LaGrange: We do for the cats and Junie! She's getting more toys and treats, and the cats get the same.

Ashley Moore: Bones!

Jessica Wahlen: Coal! jk. Last year on Christmas eve Jasper ripped open all the wrapped presents. None of the presents were hurt, but Mom was NOT happy!

Volunteer Spotlight: Ashley Moore

Ashley Moore has been a volunteer with us since early October and has been such a wonderful addition to our volunteer program!hand and pawEven with a busy work schedule, she always has a positive attitude and helps in numerous ways around the shelter.

Ashley helped us with our Draws for Paws fundraiser. She walks dogs and socializes cats whenever she can, and she recently took on the responsibility of writing online profiles for our adoptable animals.

Ashley, we can't thank you enough for being such a dedicated volunteer! It is volunteers like you that truly make a difference in the lives of the animals in our care.

Happy Tail: Stacy (now Oakley) is Great Companion

Stacy, now Oakley, seems comfortable and happy here.

She is such a sweet dog, and she loves to cuddle and go on walks. We have been working on sit, stay, shake, and down, and she is picking things up fast.

Thank you for bringing us together. Oakley is a great companion.

Cathy O.

Remember, YOU can
send us your Happy Tail, too!
