Featured Feline:
Moose

Moose was brought to us because she wasn't getting along with the owner's other cat. (Oddly enough, she didn't mind the family's beagle.) Originally a stray, Moose can be quite cautious and finicky about her people: she will sit on some laps, but not others. (And of course, only when she wants to.) She would do best in a family without kids; she has had no experience with children. She likes to hide under soft blankies and climb up into high places. A tall cat tree with several hidey-holes would be great for her! Come in and get to know Moose today. If you love her, you can bring her home for only $45, since she is a member of our Lonely Hearts Club.

Oliver

Add a description
Oliver came into our care at the end of October. This boy is friendly with people of all ages, and he knows sit, stay, and off. We think he would benefit from some structure to his day, so that he understands your expectations. Oliver is very rambunctious, muscular and active, so keep that in mind! He is a great dog who needs either a big fenced-in backyard or acreage to play in. He does not do well with small animals, such as cats, chickens, rabbits, etc. If Oliver sounds like the perfect dog for you, stop in and meet him!

It's the time of year when we step back and reflect on what we're thankful for.

I have so much to offer thanks for in my life-- my health, my family, and so much more. When I think about work, I can sum up my feelings of thanks in one simple statement: I am thankful for people who love animals.

I am grateful to be able to see this love every day. I see the love when our staff takes care of animals in need of food, shelter, and reassurance. I see it when I open the mail and find donations from people like you-- people who love animals so much that they give all they can so these animals can have a second chance at life.

I see the love when potential adopters walk around the shelter, searching for a new furry family member, and they exclaim, "I wish I could take them all home!" (Maybe that's you, too!)

There is something so special, so powerful and moving, about the love between humans and their animal companions. I am grateful to be able to experience that relationship every day, in so many ways.

On behalf of the animals, I wish you and your family a safe and happy Thanksgiving-

Lonnie Viner

Executive Director

P.S. If you would like to donate now, I would be thankful for that as well!

Calling All Gazette Subscribers

If you're a Gazette subscriber, you can help us get free advertising!

Earlier this month, you should have received a red envelope in the mail. Inside, you'll find a Gazette Gives Back voucher that you can redeem online. When you redeem the voucher by voting for the Cedar Valley Humane Society, we receive hundreds-- perhaps even thousands!-- of dollars in free advertising from the Gazette. (It depends on how many people vote for our organization when they redeem the voucher!)

The opportunity to designate your dollars ends December 31, but don't wait! Redeem your Gazette Gives Back voucher today!

Get out the Give on #Giving Tuesday

It's our second year as an official partner of #GivingTuesday, and we're excited to help spread the word.

#GivingTuesday is a movement to create a national day of giving at the start of the annual holiday season. It celebrates and encourages charitable activities that support non-profit organizations. The idea is to make #GivingTuesday a part of our collective experience, much in the way that Black Friday and Cyber Monday became part of the cultural consciousness.

The first Tuesday after Thanksgiving has been designated as #GivingTuesday. This year, #GivingTuesday is December 2.

The success of #GivingTuesday depends on all of us! We encourage everyone to be involved with spreading the word and participating. Families and individuals are encouraged to be generous in whatever ways matter to them.

We can always use monetary donations to help pay for medical supplies and procedures, like spay/neuter surgeries. If you would like to do a donation drive, please check out our wish list!

Gina Ballestrasse-Ernster: I love everything about our four rescued pets. They bring so much joy to our lives!

Nicki Coleman Finger: The funny things my cat does. He is the best entertainment ever!

Chris Christensen: How happy she makes my kids.

Volunteer Spotlight: Shayla Shreeves

hand and pawShayla Shreeves has only been volunteering for two months, but she has already volunteered 80 hours of her time walking dogs, socializing cats, helping staff when busy, and helping at community events such as Draws for Paws and the PetSmart adoption event.

When a part-time adoption technician position recently became available, we thought she would be a great fit for the job. Her positive attitude and fun personality are refreshing, and we are excited to welcome her to our staff!

Shayla, thank you for all you do for us and the animals in our care!

Happy Tail: Time with George and Fred is Best Part of the Day

Just wanted to let you know what a blessing George and Fred have been in my life these past three years. They are brothers who love to play together, groom each other, and watch out for each other.

One of the best parts of my day is my husband announcing to the cats that "Mom's home!" and George is always there to greet me.

They love our daily routines, such as drinks from the faucet, toy time, tuna time, chattering at and catching insects, lazily bathing out on the porch. Their nighttime ritual is to come sleep between our pillows for one last belly rub, or Fred will curl up in a ball with his head on the pillow just inches from my face.

They are constant sources of entertainment and unending and unconditional love. So glad they are mine to spoil each and every day! Thanks again for all you do at the Cedar Valley Humane Society!

Diane B.

Remember, YOU can
send us your Happy Tail, too!
