Featured Feline: Hazel
Hazel came into our care around the middle of July. She is a little diva who likes things her way. Hazel the Head Honcho needs to know what's going on at all times, and if she's not the center of attention, well... harrumph! She enjoys being petted and cuddled, but she's not the kind of cat who will let you pick her up and walk around with her. Hazel is OK with other cats as long as they acknowledge she is the boss and pay homage to her. She is a nosy thing who likes to watch the neighborhood goings-on from a lofty window perch. She also really likes food. Hazel has some great ideas on how to improve your life, so if you're willing to hand it over to her, she'll be happy to take it from there. |
Compatible Canine: Hooch
With us since the beginning of August, Hooch is an extremely lovable pooch who is curious and excited at the prospects of meeting new people and joining a new home. This sweetheart has an abundance of energy in which to share with a new family. He has a whole bag of tricks, including knowing commands like sit, lie down and shake. Hooch regularly looks for attention, and he won't be shy about stealing your heart! |

In animal welfare, faith plays a big part.
Faith that an injured animal can be saved. Faith that there is a home for every adoptable animal. Faith that enough funding will come along.
I am asking for your help today because I have faith in you. I believe you are a generous, compassionate person who loves animals. I believe you have seen the good our organization does, and I believe you will help us fulfill our mission to help animals -- now and in the future.
That's really what the $30K in 30 Days Challenge is all about: Raising enough funds so that we can take care of the animals AND take care of our shelter... so that we can continue to help homeless, sick, injured, and abused animals in the future.
Please donate today to our $30K in 30 Days Challenge. The fundraising campaign ends September 30, but it's never too late to make a positive difference in the life of an animal.
I have faith in you!
Lonnie Viner Executive Director P.S. And thanks for having faith in us! We very much appreciate your support, whether it's in the form of volunteering, donating, adopting, or giving us a boost in some other way. |

There's Still Time to Help us Reach $30K!
Have you donated to the $30K in 30 Days Challenge yet? Passing the $17,000 mark has been a blessing bestowed upon our animals by all of you who have already participated in the $30K in 30 Days Challenge. We are extremely grateful for your support. We hope that in these final days, we will see an uptick of donations that will close the gap to $30K! Taking care of the animals has been-- and ALWAYS will be!-- our top priority, which means that necessary projects are often postponed, sometimes indefinitely. This year, we will incur several additional expenses for upgrades and repairs, including installing new kennel latches and locks; replacing disintegrating drain covers in kennel areas; widening the driveway to two lanes; and purchasing a generator. The total costs for these projects are closer to $60,000, but we're only asking for help in raising $30K, which is roughly how much it takes to care for the animals for one month. If you haven't already, please join the $30K in 30 Days Challenge and help us by using social media to involve your friends and family in your passion for helping animals. Or simply take a moment to donate. We can't do all we do for the animals without you! |
Donated Window Coverings Give Shelter a Fresh New Look!
Have you seen the front windows of the shelter? We're so excited to have such a fresh, welcoming look! The kind folks at U. S. Nameplate wanted to do something extra special for the shelter in memory of the company's owner, Richard Novetzke, who passed away last year. Mr. Novetzke was a longtime supporter of the Cedar Valley Humane Society and a lifelong animal lover. The facelift has been in the works since May, and this past Saturday, installation was completed. All materials and labor were donated by U. S. Nameplate. The windows feature photos of cats and dogs who were adopted from the shelter. The animals' photographs were taken by Carl Bromberg of Visions Photography, who comes in every week and volunteers his time and expertise to show off shelter animals at their very best. To see all the photos of the installation, check out the Front Window Facelift album on our facebook page. |
We Asked, You Answered!
Did you know that 18% of pet parents have attempted to use Skype or FaceTime to chat with their pet. Would you ever do something like this?
Kimberly Sprinkles Cowger: We've always used speaker phone in the past and now FaceTime, too. But our baby doesn't seem to understand how to look at the phone to see her daddy. She's too busy frantically looking around the room for him because she knows she can hear him!
Mary Nelson: I would call and leave a message on our answering machine for our dog and have our housesitter play it for her if we were gone for more than two nights.
Kim Daub: My first trip internationally was the longest my pup had been away from me since I adopted her. I landed in Hong Kong and immediately Skyped my child back in the U.S.! Whenever I got near Wifi I would Skype or FaceTime her.
Dee Zehms: Absolutely, but my kids would probably make fun of me.

Volunteer Spotlight: Sarah Angelo-Haight and Jessica Haight-Angelo
Sarah Angelo-Haight and Jessica Haight-Angelo have both been volunteering for us since April and have put in many hours.
They walk dogs, socialize the cats, and occasionally help with our monthly PetSmart events. They have even committed to volunteering as photography assistants every Friday afternoon.
Sarah and Jessica, thank you for being so dedicated to our animals! We would not be able to do what we do without great volunteers like you. |
Happy Tail: Sally (now Rainy) Loves Walks at Park
I thought I would give you an update on Sally (now Rainier -- we call her Rainy). She has definitely made herself at home!
We go for morning and afternoon walks nearly every day at Noelridge Park. She gets VERY excited when we pull up and nearly falls off her seat in the car! She's a great walking partner.
She has met both her brothers, Aesyn and Kitty (our two fat cats). Kitty took to her right away. Aesyn is getting closer and closer to her each day, and he can tolerate her in small doses now. That's about all I can ask of him! Rainy is very kind and patient towards the cats, and I'm sure their relationship will continue to improve.
Rainy loves treats of all kinds, and that has been a good tool for us as we are starting some training.
Most of all, I love how mellow and attentive she is. She follows me around the house all day long, and when I pet her she just melts like butter. Our friends and family all love her, and she is so great with the little ones in my family.
Thank you for giving us the opportunity to take her home and give her the forever and ever home she so much deserves! We couldn't love her more!
Abbey S.
Remember, YOU can send us your Happy Tail, too!
