Featured Feline: Luna
Luna came into our care because her owner felt like she didn't have enough time to love Luna the way she deserves. Luna is an affectionate cat who loves a good neck scratch! Give her time, and she will crawl right into your lap to tell you it's time for cuddles. She does not like to share her person's love and would prefer to be the only cat-baby in the home. Be sure to stop in to see Luna in action, and get your lap warmed while you're here! |
Compatible Canine: Baxter
Baxter came into our care as a stray in the middle of July. This guy would do well in a low-key household because he can be a bit skittish. He's an older gentleman, so he's done with putting up with the antics of young children. He would do best with children over 12 who understand that patience has limits. Really, he's just looking for an older couple to hang out with, maybe watch a few fishing shows on TV, and be there when someone wants to scratch behind his ears. As a member of our Lonely Hearts Club, Baxter can be adopted for only $75. If Baxter sounds like your dream dog, come on in and meet him! |

We're excited to report that our $30K in 30 Days Challenge is right on track!
And we have YOU to thank!
Our hearts are warmed by how much support we have in the community, and how generously, quickly, and consistently all our supporters answer the call. Whether we need smooth cat food, peanut butter, paper towels -- or $30,000! -- you always help us provide for the animals.
We never take that for granted.
Every day we work on improving the shelter and its operations, for both the animals and our customers. We want you to feel proud to be a part of the Cedar Valley Humane Society.
September is not quite halfway through, and we still have a long way to go to $30K. But we know that with all of you supporting us and encouraging your friends, family, and colleagues to do the same, we'll get there.
Together, we can make a difference!
Lonnie Viner Executive Director P.S. If you have already made a contribution to the $30K in 30 Days Challenge, we thank you! If not, please take a moment to donate today! Every donation makes a difference in the lives of our shelter animals. |

Join the $30K in 30 Days Challenge!
During September, once again our goal is to raise $30K, which is roughly the amount it takes to provide care for all our shelter animals for 30 days. As you may know, it can cost between $200 and $300-- or even more-- to take care of an animal during its length of stay with us. That really adds up! Taking care of the animals has been-- and ALWAYS will be!-- our top priority, which means that necessary projects are often postponed, sometimes indefinitely. This year, we will incur several additional expenses. We need to:
- Install new kennel latches and locks so that we can securely house dogs in all of our kennels.
- Replace disintegrating drain covers in kennel areas so that pieces of plastic do not enter and cause damage to our newly installed septic systems.
- Widen the driveway to two lanes so two vehicles can safely pass.
- Purchase a generator so that we can maintain a healthy, safe, and comfortable environment for the animals during extended power outages.
Completing these three projects and buying a generator will take more than $30K; the total costs are closer to $60,000. Right now, we're just asking you to help raise the $30K to care for the animals. Please join the $30K in 30 Days Challenge on FirstGiving and help us by using social media to involve your friends and family in your passion for helping animals. As we always say, we can't do all we do for the animals without you! |
We Asked, You Answered!
Do your pets like to talk? When do they talk to you the most?
Joan Ameling Johnson: My two-year-old Boxer girl is the WINDIEST dog talker EVER! The only time she's not sass talking is when she has a toy, bone or treat in her mouth. I absolutely love her talk, talk, talk! It cracks us up all day long.
Sheri Capron: My dog talked all the time, too. His lecture voice each day I came home from work was my favorite. His skin around his mouth would pucker up as he lectured me, in a different voice only used at this time. He let me know he missed me and how disappointed he was he'd been home all day alone. We had to put him to sleep the end of June and going home has never been the same. My 12-year-old daughter tries to mimic his lecture, but she doesn't come close.
Christy Scimeca: Recently adopted Otto (a kitten), now Kinnick, LOVES TO TALK! He talks all the time, when playing, before he falls asleep AND he holds conversations!
Rita Fuller: My cats talk to me when I come home or when they want attention.
Kayla Carol Kensett: My cat has been sassing me because he's out of canned food. Then when I tell him to knock it off or I won't get him any at all, he starts sweet talking me. I swear they really do understand every word we say.
Barb Trujillo: Our CVHS alum Duke, a chocolate lab we adopted several years ago, loves to tell my husband Larry that it is time to eat. He's especially vocal when Larry is late with feeding time. His bark sounds just like "Now! Now! Now! Now!"

Volunteer Spotlight: Carole Gauger
Most people who make visits to Walmart do so for personal needs.
Volunteer Carole Gauger has a more philanthropic reason. Since January 2013, Carole has made regular visits to Walmart to pick up pet supplies that the store donates to our shelter (usually because the packaging has been torn). We are thankful for Walmart's donations, and we very much appreciate Carole getting them to us!
Thank you, Carole, for being a person we can count on month after month. It's wonderful volunteers like you who make our mission successful! |
Happy Tail: Family Adores Furry Friends
We adopted George (he was K-too with you) several years ago. This winter we adopted our cat, Yolanda. (She was Jazzlyn with you.)
As I write this, Yolanda is demanding I pet her.
The kids and I adore our furry friends, and as you can see, the two of them seem to be adapting to each other.
Thanks for making these sweeties part of our lives!
Mary, Max and Catie L.
Remember, YOU can send us your Happy Tail, too!

Unlike us, cats never outgrow their delight in cat capacities, nor do they settle finally for limitations. Cats, I think, live out their lives fulfilling their expectations. -Irving Townsend |
