Featured Feline:
Clark

Clark was brought to us because his owner could no longer afford to keep him. He is an easygoing guy who loves laps and quiet time. He also has plenty of spunk in him! He is very playful and enjoys running around after toys. Clark gets along well with people of all ages. As a member of our Silver Paws Club, he can be brought home for only $75. Stop in and meet this gentleman today!
Compatible Canine:
Dexter

If you're looking for a carefree and playful pet, Dexter is your man! He came to us in the beginning of June, and he is full of love! Dexter likes to show you lots of affection by licking your face. You can win him over with raw hides and squeaky toys. Dexter is a very sweet and friendly boy, but he tends to get excited and jump, especially around kids. Because of that, we think that he would do best with a family without small children for him to knock over. Stop in and meet Dexter today!

Exciting news!

We have been working with the Cedar Rapids PetSmart to make in-store cat adoptions a reality! New processes are always a little bumpy, but for the most part, customer reaction has been positive. And it's been a beautiful thing for our cats, too, since they can start their new lives with their new families just that much faster.

Our partnership with PetSmart opens new doors for dogs, too! We are now eligible to partner with the PetSmart Charities Rescue Waggin' program.

Last week we were blessed with the arrival of several dogs ranging in ages from three months to two years.

What a joy... it was like Christmas!

We were geared up and ready to go when they arrived. Everyone was so excited when the van pulled into our driveway. The dogs were eager to check out their new surroundings... and then they all promptly took a well-deserved nap!

The puppies were ever so adorable, every one! (Several have already been adopted by loving families!)

We are so fortunate to have such a great team of dedicated employees and volunteers. Everything went off without a hitch!

We are also blessed with folks such as yourselves who generously give to help support our mission!

Foster Care Providers Needed!

Kitten season is in full swing, and we are seeking more volunteer foster care providers!

Foster care providers feed the babies and help them eliminate waste. Bottle feeding is around the clock and can be every hour... or every 3 to 4 hours. The timeframe for fostering could be anywhere from one to eight weeks, depending on how old the animals are when they come into our care.

Fostering can be tiring, but it's extremely rewarding work!

The first step is to fill out a foster care provider application, which can be picked up at the shelter. Once that's done, we will schedule a home visit so we can set you up for success!

If you already have pets in the home, you'll need to keep your family animal(s) separate from the foster animals. We provide everything you need, including food, kitten milk replacer (KMR), bottles, towels, medication, etc.

No experience is necessary! If you have never fostered before, we're happy to show you how it's done and coach you every step of the way. If you're an old hand at it, we're excited to welcome you on board.

For more information, contact our shelter manager, Lyndee Fuessley, at (319) 362-6288 or lyndee.fuessley@cvhumane.org.

Thanks to our Sponsors!

Drives for Lives logo We want to give a final shout out to all the incredible sponsors of our fifth annual Drives for Lives golf outing, presented by Skogman Companies!

Between our sponsors and golfers, who were very generous with buying mulligans and raffle tickets, we raised more than $8,000 to purchase food, vaccines, and other medical necessities for our animals.

THANK YOU to one and all! We couldn't do all we do for the animals without you!

We Asked, You Answered!

We asked icon
When you can't see your furry friend, but you can hear noises, what is your pet usually up to?

Jill R Cram: She is usually singing to a baby blue sock that she thinks is her kitten.

Kimberly Malcolm: Looking for the butter dish on the counter. The cats love butter.

Billie Jo Udorvich-York: The old black and white cat is digging all the cat litter out of the box! The other black and white is talking to the squirrel on the deck. And the little fat brown dog is in the trash!

Ashley Kilpatrick: Yup, eating old food out of the trash.

Jaclyn Keefer: Running laps at high speeds pretending he's a super hero.

Andrea Havlicek-Schminkey: Looking for Q-tips in the bathroom garbage. Anyone else's dog do this? She is a little obsessed.

Pam Wyant: Being that mine talks pretty much nonstop he could be doing anything. It's when you can't hear him that you have to worry.

Michele Bowers Vileta: Rubbing her stomach on the carpet and smiling.

Volunteer Spotlight: Tom and Morgan Kazmierczak

Tom and Morgan Kazmierczak are a father/daughter team that has hand and pawbeen volunteering for us since May. They have been a blast to have around and have already put in a total of 34 volunteer hours!

This dynamic duo has been coming to the shelter every weekend to walk dogs. They always make sure to walk the most energetic dogs and dogs that haven't yet been walked that day. They certainly go above and beyond when they volunteer!

Tom and Morgan, we are so thankful for your dedication and hard work in making sure our dogs get the attention and exercise that they need during their stay!

Happy Tail: Tigger (aka Tigg Mo) Makes House Feel Like a Home Again

Just wanted to let you know Tigger (aka "Tigg Mo" 'cause there's more of him) has settled in like he's always been here!

Found out right off that he LOVES catnip toys, tinsel balls, perching on the window ledges, and being held like a baby with his head on my shoulder and his purrs in my ear.

I wasn't sure I was ready for another cat after my 22-year-old, Gertie, died in April, but Tigg Mo's photo on the Cedar Valley Humane Society website just kept calling me.

I'm so glad I gave in and went to see him. It was love at first sight, and my house feels like a home again!

Remember, YOU can
send us your Happy Tail, too!

A dog is grateful for what is, which I am finding to be the soundest kind of wisdom and very good theology.
